Porteus v1.2 rc2 i486 is ready!

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Can you check if you have a softlink from .kde --> .trinity It should be there.

/usr/lib/libkdecore.so.4
This is a kde4 library so your kdialog perhaps needs to be compiled from trinity sources. I will compile it for you.

@brokenman

Yes, the links from .kde and .kde3 are there. My problem was that my configuration files had not yet made the jump to .trinity. Got it now.

If you can provide the properly compiled library, I will happily make a module for kdialog.

Thanks as always.

Best regards,

hello
I have been able to fix the compiz fusion icon,
i download nightly code released the week past and this from trinity archive, i compile it in porteus rc2, and now the option for change to kde is here, now can change 2 compiz 2 kd3 2 openbox without problems, I have proven it all the day and is stable, all fine,

on the other programs of kde and the new code, now yakuake returns to work too with the new code, is all for trinity 14.0.0,
and many others programs but some dont work for problems with dependencies, like wlassistant, it needs libiw.so.30 but i dont find, is not the same that iw-3-4, I hope to fix it because dont have long time damn.

if somebody wants i can upload the modules that work, only saying me, i have working knetstats, yakuake and fusion icon, others still do not finish them by variable problems,
--------
another thing
does not exist rc.modules?
i put the code for fix my scroll touchpad in rc.local,
mouserc have proto=auto like configuration but i dont change it,
I believe that is rc.modules who must to read that? or i am wrong?
--------
another silly bug is when you open konqueror and show "about kubuntu" instead of "about porteus" like before :)

bye

For example, in v1.1 I have Kwrite using dejavu sans mono Bold 12 and Konqueror using Trebuchet MS 13 (not sure if bold or not). In v 1.2rc2, using the identical configuration (I save config as an xzm), I find Kwrite using monospae reg 10 and konqueror using sans serif 10.
In both these applications the menu and left column fonts are affected as well as the display fonts in kwrite.
Again I do not see this effect in non-kde apps.
maybe with new kwrite for tde 14 it does not happen,
tde has many changes at the moment,
2 weeks ago yakuake did not work now and with the new code if.

Thanks for your work.

if somebody wants i can upload the modules that work, only saying me, i have working knetstats, yakuake and fusion icon, others still do not finish them by variable problems.
After final release i will upload all the applications (that i can compile) from the 'application' folder in the Trinity git archive (R14). I can't upload them until final is released as they will break under current version.

No. It doesn't exist.

i put the code for fix my scroll touchpad in rc.local,
This is the correct file.
rc.local will do what you need in this case.

--------
another silly bug is when you open konqueror and show "about kubuntu" instead of "about porteus" like before
My current Porteus v1.2rc2 shows 'about Porteus'.

@UrUtusUbU
Thanks for the help.

A follow-up:
The font issues I was seeing were MY error. I had failed to realize that ~/.trinity had replaced ~/.kde in this release. Once I corrected that, my font problems were solved. A relief.

I am still fiddling with Kdialog. I do have dialog version of my "save-config" script working. It is somewhat crude, but does work for my purposes.

More later.

Thanks again.

this is not normal, my porteus rc2 show kubuntu, that's why i said it to you, i use 1.2 rc2 and I see it right now, not what it spends :unknown:
in porteus version file puts 1.2 but i think is rc2.
--------------------
one question,
in porteus what driver needed to load to have tact in a tactile screen. i probe with wacom but i do not spend anything, porteus have support for this?? in ubuntu netbook it comes from series and work fine without touching anything.
thanks for all

maybe is for the trinity update,
i probe more yakuake and the focus dont work very well with F12 key but the rest work fine,
executor programs fail in finding devices, kommander editor more or less,
fusion-icon does not recognize the command "fusion-icon -n" in autostart, but it changes already desktop,
wlassistant still need some files to start,
they all have dumb or incomplete mistakes.
bye

@brokenman
I am working on Network Manager for KDE4-32-bits; my first errand was to suppress every spur of wicd form 002-xorg, and so I did. After cleaning the module, I did a restart to find out if everything was ok: Surprise!, there was still a ghost of wicd in /etc/xdg/autostart/wicd-tray.desktop residing in 001-core! Take note for final.

Regards :)

I will report back as soon as I get NM to work correctly.
Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

only i see "about kubuntu" instead of "about porteus" in konqueror?? i keep on seeing kubuntu,
perhaps i broke something,
or do you have her more updated?
in the presentation of rc2 also it is said that it takes 3.5.13 trinity but takes 14 dev,
i use rc2 with no extra modules.

this is another thing.
that are the called modules fix1 and fix2 released yesterday in/porteus/i486/testing/updates/?
are 0 bytes the two.
opera it seems that it is fine but it is not seen the i agree text at the beginnig of starting it (silly thing) it was already happening with others.

Only i see "about kubuntu" instead of "about porteus" in konqueror??
Can anyone else confirm this? I see 'About Trinity'. I think you may have altered a file while playing with Porteus. I will track down the file that requires editing so you can fix it.

Trinity is called 3.5.13 to separate it from 3.5.12, but it is indeed still in R14. Hopefully in the next few months they will push out the final but there is still many small things that need updating since the move to cmake. They are doing a great job.

Code: Select all

that are the called modules fix1 and fix2 released yesterday in/porteus/i486/testing/updates/? are 0 bytes the two.
Yes i placed the files there for testing of a new 'Porteus update' feature for v1.2 final. They are empty files.

Posted after 21 minute 4 seconds:
The kubuntu references are created during compile, but were removed long ago in a patch.

kcontrol/kdm/kdm-appear.cpp
This file has the 'Welcome to Kubuntu' reference

konqueror/about/konq_aboutpage.cc
This file has the 'About Kubuntu' reference.

In both source files 'Kubuntu' was replaced with %{tde_aboutlabel}. If you are playing with compiling Trinity sources please use the latest GIT sources and compile with cmake.

lol more problems hehe, i never see before "about trinity" this is new :)
I have just proved it rc2 from the cd without any module and i see "about kubuntu",
if you want the next time i put an capture,
the problem for me is not the name, is if the two are testing the same iso.

my MD5 is correct.
I think that you are more updated that i
and if nobody any more says anything ................
you want to drive me crazy :D

Ok. I changed a version before the patch was released to show 'About Porteus'. Since the kubuntu reference has been fixed upstream my latest compilation shows 'About Trinity'.

Please wait for the v1.2 final release which should resolve this. Sorry for confusion.

I have also compiled kdialog into the final release for you.

Yes the next release will be the final v1.2

This is an exciting release. I think Porteus is really maturing. Fanthom continually improves the core and everyone contributing is pushing Porteus in the right direction.

Is nfs on board rc-2? I can't check now and I'm not sure if this usb stick has rc1 or 2 on board. My netbook is definitly rc-1 and there was no nfs. I had to roll up an xzm from a slack pack last week.
