Just for a change I copied Porteus from the USB stick onto my hard drive - and when I logged in, the SD card ion was displayed properly (and still is)! Quite strange, but good anyway.

I also decided to leave the notifications for a while, as I wouldn't like to mess with the system like that.

@ Cyril, I agree that is strange about the icon, perhaps there is some kind of race condition occurring when the system is starting without a saved session.

@ Seq_Res, thanks for testing! Would you please let me know how you are logging in to the system (as root or guest, and via 'xfce' cheatcode, or telinit 3+startx), how you would go about activating a batch of modules in RC1 (from the command line, or inside Thunar with a right click), and what the error message is when it fails? I've got some inconsistent behavior when I log in via startx as guest and try to run activate on multiple modules via the right click menu, but I'm not getting an error message, and perhaps it will help me track this one down.

Thanks!

@Ahau,
My 2 gb stick is in FAT32, partitioned as disk_1 and disk_2, and porteus on
disk_1 with modules (Libreoffice GIMP etc.).
always "always fresh", then inside default guest;
then, logout, set XFCE session, login as root ;
Filesystem > disk_1,modules > right click then "activate";
RC1 can activate all of them in batch, but RC2 one by one only.
Error message window says: "error activate Cannot read module data, download corrupted ? OK";
One more thing, when activated, all modules work well immediately in RC1,
but in RC2, re-logining again as root is Necesary in order to get modules take function.

(foreign language, hope you may understand what I wrote). XFCE is great; thanks for your efforts.

Thanks, Seq_Res, I'm unable to reproduce your errors in RC2, though I've seen them before and thought I'd covered all the places where it was happening. Is it possible you have some out of date files in your rootcopy or other modules (for example, any patches I put out for RC1)? Any patches for RC1 would be obsolete and may cause issues with RC2.

As fanthom mentioned in mchat, the 'activate' script doesn't support batch activation of modules by itself, so you were probably getting this through some handling of selected files in thunar. I'm able to get multiple modules to activate when logged in as guest or root through lxdm (guest user has to enter root password for each module, though), but not when logging in through 'startx' (nothing happens when I select activate, or only one of the selected modules might activate). To help out, I've put together an extremely simple script (which basically does what brokenman suggests above), and modified /usr/share/applications/activate.desktop to point to this script. This is an "unofficial" module, unless brokenman or fanthom decides to incorporate something like this in the mainline activate process. I've tested it to work in lxde and xfce in 32-bit; it will not work in 64-bit (but it would work with some quick edits). You can download it here:

http://porteus-xfce.googlecode.com/file ... tivate.xzm

I hope this helps, please let me know if it doesn't.

@Ahau : I downloaded batchactivate.xzm; thank you. where should I put it, in module folder ?
I did activate batchactivate.xzm, but right click 'activate' does not work any more.
I don't how to use the code brokenman provided. I think it is a shell command; I dont have
any experience in shell or script.

Posted after 5 days 18 hours 47 minutes 45 seconds:
I formatted my usb key to ext4, reinstalled rc2, and solved the problem; <modules> is activated
automatically now.

Glad to hear it's working for you, Seq_Res! Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I've been dealing with a number of issues at home, but should be around the forums more now :)
