Porteus-v1.2-rc1 x86_64 is ready for testing!

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

I'll really like to test this kernel update but as I'm not a Linux developer I'm having difficulty finding out how to turn the files inside the tarball into a bootable iso.

Is there a HOWTO help guide for this process online somewhere?
There could be but I am not sure :(

However, you can mount the iso original(rc1), with a command and repack 00-kernel, by erasing the older one and then in porteus directories there is a file called make_iso.sh which would incorporate the new settings. However it depends on the file if it is in the form 00-kernel.xzm, then just replace it and repack. I will search for a howto, somewhere and try to post it so you can see.

Regards,

Antonio

EDIT:

How to remaster ISO here in FAQ:

here is a kernel update (linux-3.3.1) for rc1 of Portues-1.2
this kernel is based on experimental config which i would like to use in rc2 so please test it when you have a chance.
vmlinuz is slightly larger as i have compiled drivers for Multi Media Cards and Memory Sticks into it (as per luc0zade bug report).

ndiswrapper module is absent as it did not compile against 3.3.x kernel.

have fun:
http://ponce.cc/porteus/x86_64/testing/ ... ftm.tar.gz
I would test it, but me needs a NVidia module, too...
Is one already made?

Checked http://ponce.cc/porteus/x86_64/testing/ ... c1/extras/ and there is only the above kernel update...
What's the md5sum for that file, anyway?
Cheers!
Yours Rava

Assisted by the tips and links provided above by Tonio, I've remastered Porteus-XFCE-v1.2-rc1-x86_64 to make an ISO including the 3.3.1 Linux kernel mentioned above and the XFCE 4.9 modules linked in this thread.

EDIT

However this thread focuses on the standard, i.e. non-XFCE edition of Porteus, so I've moved the download link for this XFCE ISO to a new thread, see: http://porteus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=1168.

Your answer is about XFCE Edition of Porteus. This topic is about standard edition of Porteus.

We would be happy to see your wonderful stuff on "Development" Section or even in the "Community effort" section

Keep on topic - If you are replying about something to do with iptables for example, and someone mentions a configuration tool that runs in KDE, don't start talking about KDE--stick to the topic. Go start a new topic and post a link to the old one if there is relevant information there.
Thanks!
