spman to build microsoft-edge zoom, openoffice, vlc from sbo

sbo zoom-linux with spman download:

The following thread was troubleshooting to get sbo for zoom.

Trying to build zoom with spman sbo package builder I get:

It seems that spam repositories are outdated as zoom-1.1.5.tar.gz is 2019-Dec-22 18:16:58.

Maybe the solution is in the /etc/spman/spman.conf file.

I do not have an /etc/group. And from:

groupadd root is the solution.

zoom-linux-5.14.7.2928-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz will be found in /root/spman/build/

Building zoom is not a problem -- one just downloads from the official site or AppImage. The problem is to make it run

On my side the zoom-linux built from source boots fine once activated. I will try to use it more toroughly a little later today or tomorrow.

Adding root as user group might be a bad idea, I don't know yet. Unless someone say its not a good idea.

This morning, I am building from source openoffice and vlc while playing scrabble on the Internet scrabble club.

It worked just fine/

francois, you missed the content of my comment for sure. I said 2 things:
1. No need to build yet another same binary as you can download the official binary bundle from the official site, and/or the AppImage.

2. this does nothing as group root was there and is there already

I did. I get into the interface with a message unable to get a secured connection. But I get connected into zoom and fully operational.

This is with my version of zoom linux.

And then what do you want me to do?

francois, Wow, it's amazing you get it running under root!

Your version didn't seem to work for me though. So the last thing for us to try is for you to please try "my" version which is the same as the official binary, on your system under GUI root logged in.

Could you follow the relevant steps from Zoom Newer Version needed 5.9.3 no work xcfe (Post by rych #94304) : that is, 1. download the https://zoom.us/client/5.14.7.2928/zoom_x86_64.tar.xz, 2. extract and cd to /tmp/zoom and 3. start:

One problem though. The database for microsoft-edge sbo is not up to date. Thus impossible to update to the most current version.
