When using tor, and especially when hosting a tor server, the NSA will target with 10000% . There are two known German persons who have been spied on by NSA: Chancelor Merkel, and a guy no one ever heard about, from Erlangen. Why was he targeted as the only other personal known NSA surveillance victim in Germany? He hosts a TOR server.

"You want privacy? You oppose unlawful surveillance by the 5-Eyes Big brother?
That only means you are a criminal, or a terrorist, or both and we will put you under personal and intense surveillance. Cause we call ourselves democrats, and that's all it needs to make us the one and only true democrats." </doublespeak></doublethink>

--> enjoy freedom <--

I quote the Tor Project Executive Director Andrew Lewman:
We’ve said repeatedly that if you’re going up against nation-states, and all you have is Tor, you’ve already lost.
Additional (frightening) background info about Tor can be found in the security section.

@rava, donald:
Citations are appreciated. In short forms, if you may. :)

And what about the incognito mode of every browser. Will we be spied upon? 8)

@francois
Incognito mode or private browsing only prevents the browser from storing browsing information locally.
It does not make you anonymous online or prevent your internet service provider from seeing your traffic.

No, I did not.
If I need an extra layer of anonymity, or need to bypass some (filter) restrictions,
I do mostly use a free ssl web-proxy.
(hosted in china, korea or russia, if possible).
Even if they do log my traffic,
I believe it would take ages to get the log files from them, if not completely impossible.. :)

Tor can be cracked, a demonstration of a researcher from Columbia university:
But Sambuddho Chakravarty of Columbia University has found one that allowed him to identify Tor users 100 percent of the time in a lab experiment, and 81.4 percent of the time in real-world tests.

@donald:
Maybe we are a little toot much in the details.

@Ole,

Do not get me wrong and I hope that this translation will be clear, so that there is no misunderstanding.

1. All of us in the porteus forum appreciate very much your dedication and stable production of porteus module.
2. On the english thread, though we were debating the the true hermetic nature of tor, I want you to know that I still do not know any other measure as secure as tor to surf on the net, except not surfing at all or using vpn. So thanks for your tor module.
3. Nonetheless, donald and me were debating about tor security. This is some kind of witch pursuit. :wink:

What exactly do you mean with witch pursuit here?

All I know is that the 5 eyes use quite elaborate software. And that it was a German IT professor who gave them a huge amount of clever code, seemingly having learnt nothing, nil, nix, nada from German history, as in: Gestapo & Stasi.... and now the 5 eyes. History repeats itself unless humans are able to learn and more folks stand up for their basic human rights.... *le sigh*

Details make the difference between insecure or secure.
