Modules To Go But Nowhere Easy To Go

I made a 31meg module of FreeOffice and Java8 and smplayer and mplayer and the newest Chrome (can't get OpenOffice411 to work though) but have nowhere to post them and it's a hassle opening up a respository online. Can't I just email these things to a modules caretaker instead?

Try Google Drive. It's easy to set up, and free.

@jimwg:
You must consider that FreeOffice is the free version of a commercial software.

I dot'n know your preferences, but I can tell you that I've used LibreOffice since version 2.x.x and this office suite handels everything needed. I've updated the modules I use on Porteus every new version and it is easy to update. Try LibreOffice, I'm sure that You'll get what You're looking for.

LibreOffice and OpenOffice are working properly with Java 7 and 8th
FreeOfice I think is a bad choice.

Please understand, I'm just trying to help contribute to and build up the user repository with ANY packages available, regardless whether I use the modules or not. We need an easily accessible variety of Porteus apps, favoritism be damned. I just don't want other newbies to be put-off by the hassle of the conversion process to try Porteus for any purpose,

Please do not scare anybody. The porteus package manager usm is darn simple to use. All you have to know is where to put the packages and dependencies once converted to modules (/porteus/modules), so that at reboot they are permanently installed.

In addition, libreoffice and abiword are made available with each new version of porteus:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/modules/

Concerning the usefulness of the different packages this forum is the exact place to share about them. :wink:

Please understand that I wasn't talking about getting files from USM, but contributing and uploading new converted apps not there to the repositories.

@jim:

Do not interpret my comments harshly, it is really not my style to be rude as everybody knows. In fact, if this is what you meant, I have taken into account your comment on converting, activating and transferring modules in the right place in the following thread:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=4537

Modules builders are really appreciated and respected. :twisted:

We can't know you are having trouble if you do not post. The best place would be Newbie Questions. Just describe what's going wrong, and someone will take it from there. :)

@kotaport:
In command line try:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -u all
Then try usm anew and tell us if it works now.

Greetings!

I just can't convert OpenOffice 4.1.1 into a functional module right. It keeps stalling out on boot and there're no error messages. Can someone take a crack at it, please?
