Post#1 by RamonTavarez » 25 Dec 2013, 11:24

Hi community!

I hope that all of you have been good boys and that Santa have visited you yesterday evening with good gifts. :D.
He only left to me the bill of the charcoal that he give to those that behaved badly. :oops:

Anyway, the following links are for:
LibreOffice 4.1.4 Suite : http://www.adrive.com/public/CreeW2/lib ... 4-i586.xzm
LibreOffice 4.1.4 englixh Helppack: http://www.adrive.com/public/fQm7hh/lib ... S-i586.xzm

Enjoy it!

NOTE: Remember that LibO works with JRE or JDK. You can find the full version of JDK 7u45 at http://www.adrive.com/public/gBnebu/jdk-7u45-i586.xzm

Hi Ramón, I have downloaded both files (LibreOffice and JDK 7u45), both activated, but when trying to open LibreOffice Writer I get the splash screen and then nothing. Do you have any idea why? I'm using Porteus LXDE 2.1.

(En español: he bajado ambos archivos pero cuando intento abrir Writer, me sale el logo y luego nada. ¿Tienes alguna idea? Gracias.)

@Sagittarius:

I work with KDE4, and I don't have any trouble with LibO.

The modules were prepared for Porteus 2.1, wich release of Porteus are you using? I'm not sure, but there can be some issues if you try to run them into a previous release.

sagittarius try to open the libreoffice script into the /usr/bin directory,this is the libreoffice index and you can choose the software that you need,it is just to see if work or not.

@ Ramón, I am using LXDE 2.1, (I'm using an old computer 10+ yrs old!)

@ Beny, I opened the script but the same thing happened, the splash screen appeared, then nothing.

FYI I have a frugal HD install, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

@Sagittarius:

Try the following:
  • 1.-Open a terminal
    2.-Run LibO from the terminal
    3.-Copy the error reported by LibO on the terminal and post it
This way you can see the libraries, objects, etc. that LibO needs to run and don't find.

One more detail: I allways login as ROOT.

@Ramón, this is the output of a root terminal - the startup screen splashes, then:

root@porteus:/home/guest# libreoffice4.1
/opt/libreoffice4.1/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libcups.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
root@porteus:/home/guest#

@Beny, I'll try downloading it again.

@Sagittarius:

libcups is a system's library for printing. As far as I know it must be runnig, and should be working even if you don't have a printer on yours (as in my case).

Try the following:
1.- Locate the library
  • 1.1-open a terminal
    1.2.-run this command: whereis libcups.so.2
the object needed must be at /usr/lib, if not try:

2.-Restart loggin in as root
  • 2.1.- Restart Porteus
    2.2.- On the main menu select the mode (i.e.: Allways fresh)
    2.3.- Press TAB key
    2.4.- At the parameters line type the following cheatcode: login=root
    2.5.- Press ENTER.
    2.6.- After boot try LibO again
This procedure is not "official" , I just recommend it to go rounding up the source of the problem and then determine the solution.

Sorry if my instructions are too explicit, not trying to be pedantic, just want to give you the step by step details if you have not dug deep in the use of Porteus.

@Sagittarius:

Do you have the module 07-printing.xzm as part of your system? Maybe this could be the problem.

@ Ramón, this is the result of the whereis

root@porteus:/home/guest# whereis libcups.so.2
libcups.so:
root@porteus:/home/guest#

HOWEVER ....

paleport was right, I needed the printing module.

It now works!

Thanks paleport, thanks Ramón. I'm not very versed in Porteus and your guidance was much appreciated.

@Sagittarius:

I'm glad that your problem is solved. I had a similar issue with another app and the user wread pointed me to the solution: activating the 07-printing.xzm module.
