You are confusing between a language and a dialect. Are you now saying that people in Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein are not speaking German? :)

Here is the technical answer:
Unsquashfs the German language pack, and say for this discussion, the French one.

French:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~/Downloads$ du -h fr/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-fr/
4.0K	fr/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-fr/META-INF
6.5M	fr/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-fr/
German:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~/Downloads$ du -h german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/
680K	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/registry/res
684K	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/registry
4.0K	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-de/META-INF
82M	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-de
82M	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions
124K	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/autotext/de
124K	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/autotext
83M	german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/
See the size difference?

The french dictionaries:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~/Downloads$ ls fr/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-fr/
META-INF/ description.xml* hyph-fr.tex* thes_fr.dat*
README_fr.txt* dictionaries.xcu* hyph_fr.dic* thes_fr.idx*
README_hyph_fr.txt* fr.aff* icon.png*
README_thes_fr.txt* fr.dic* package-description.txt*
The german dictionaries:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~/Downloads$ ls german/opt/libreoffice6.1/share/extensions/dict-de/
COPYING_GPLv2* de_AT_frami.aff* hyph_de_AT.dic*
COPYING_GPLv3* de_AT_frami.dic* hyph_de_CH.dic*
COPYING_OASIS.txt* de_CH_frami.aff* hyph_de_DE.dic*
META-INF/ de_CH_frami.dic* th_de_CH_v2.dat*
README_de_DE_frami.txt* de_DE_frami.aff* th_de_CH_v2.idx*
README_extension_owner.txt* de_DE_frami.dic* th_de_DE_v2.dat*
README_hyph_de.txt* description.xml* th_de_DE_v2.idx*
README_thesaurus.txt* dictionaries.xcu*
Like I said, seems to include German, Austrian and Swiss German dialects as well :)

The language packs are the same as LibreOffice provides them, i do not remove or add any files. :)

They sure do, I am just accustomed to language packs for one of these variants, e.g. only de_DE, or only de_AT or only de_CH, since almost no one speaks all these dialects, most people just speak one, or maybe two, but usually never more than that. So having a language pack with all 3 dialects is overkill, I would prefer 3 separate ones.

I think they have separated en_UK (or en_GB) and en_US spelling, or have they put these two major dialects into one big pack as well?
Since they would have to separate e.g. the correct spelling of colour (correct) vs color (wrong in my book. SCNR ;) )

Thanks for the info. Seems German is DE, AT and CH for Libreoffice, but not Liechtenstein.
Cheers!
