md5sum: beeddf5993c4eba1276770f1b6cfdc67
removed:
gimp-console, various: brushes,textures, icons, presets...
shrunk the splash image

NOTE: when you first start it, go to Edit>Preferences>Folders and set the "Swap folder" to some where outside the union(AUFS), either a folder on a HD partition or a swap partition, otherwise you might get a "no room on disk" type warning/error)
other notes:
some packages included are already present in some DEs, but are older versions(babl json-*)
and an older version of gexiv2(libgexiv2) is used because the newer version wasn't compatible with some other older libs
at some point, once porteus base resyncs with slackware current, these modules should shrink some..
locales have been stripped, here is a module containing all of them:
gimp-2.10-locales.xzm 9.9MB
md5sum: 64535bfb89bc1c21e2f1ec40c733c0b5
just extract it and get the locale you want..

Gimp-2.10 for Porteus 4.0

Post#2 by M. Eerie » 19 May 2018, 17:39

Thanks very much.

I think Ghostcript could be excluded and released as an independant module (saving almost 12Mb) because this only adds PDF/POSTSCRIPT printing support. Anyway GhostScript is used by a wide range of applications.

I was surprised because mine only took 16.1Mb (including spanish locales)

Cheers!

Gimp-2.10.2 for Porteus 4.0

My gimp-2.8.6 version only had gimp, babl and gegl, and with only German locales it is only 8.88 MB (9314304 bytes)

The 2.10.2 gimp seems to be quite the massive one, compared to the older version.
I tried to slim it down, but to almost no avail.

Does anyone know why that is?

Will a minimal 2.12.0 version, only made out of gimp, babl and gegl run as it did with 2.8.6 ?
Cheers!
Yours Rava

one reason is the inclusion of mypaint brushes(3.4 MB)
but the main fat is in /usr/share/gimp/2.0 :
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/Fun/Wilber.gih = 8.7 MB
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/images/gimp-splash.png = 3.2 MB (easily shrunk)
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/icons = 11.6 MB (4 sets!)
so i adjusted and removed these and other non-essential(to basic operation) larger stuff...
could probably take it further, but would only gain another meg or so, i guess

Gimp-2.10.4 for Porteus 4.0

Thanks, the slimmed down version works like a charm. :D

Why does it behave like a Windoze version? The main window, and the two main extra Toolbox and Brushes, are merged into one window.
Was that done on purpose?

The setting is in Menu Windows / [ ] Single-Window Mode, so no big deal in changing that.
Cheers!

single window mode has been with us since 2.8, they've now made it the default, it seems..
