Google-earth-pro-7.3.0.3827 for Porteus

Post#1 by wread » 06 Feb 2018, 14:01

@all
Google Earth is one of the most downloaded applications for Porteus. In my repo at mediafire I count 425 downloads now (I seem to be the de-facto maintainer of GE for Porteus). B)

Google Earth has discontinued the Free edition, making the Pro edition now free. You can dowload the pro-version from here.

Features of Earth Pro:
- Use advanced GIS data importing features to your advantage
- Measure area, radius and circumference on the ground
- Print high-resolution screenshots
- Make compelling offline movies to share.

By installing, you agree to Google Earth's Privacy Policy.

Enjoy GE-pro!

Thanks Wread. I always keep a copy of GE handy.

When I activated this one it killed the console and removed all icons and menu items from my menu. When I click the word in the menu it didnt start anything (all icons are gone now) and running from a terminal was missing at least: error while loading shared libraries: libgstreamer-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Please be specific for which version of Porteus and which desktop environment this is built for.

@brokenman
Jay, I guess you have a broken download...you can make following test:
Start your system in text mode, bring IN up (I used pns-tool for my test), start x by typing xinit.
Then start googleearth by typing "google-earth-pro"

That works for me problemlos. If it does not for you, your download is bad or your system is bad.
You may be missing gstreamer-1.12.4-x86_64 from slackware current.

I can confirm this is not working for me either, wread. After activation, the system went unusable :%)

Oh, I see, @neko. Thanks.

Yes I have your build of Google-earth in my Aporteus Budgie :)
Now I want to get it in my Nemesis-XFCE pendrive. Got it working, but depending on which platform you use it you get poor performance (screen refresh). It's such a resource-hungry app.

Cheers!

I am sorry, I should have mentioned your missing dependencies for this application. Google-earth-pro is an X program and as such runs in all 64-bit versions of Porteus.

Enter Slackware64 Packages current and download
- gstreamer-1.12.4-x86_64,
- gst-plugins-base-1.12.4-x86_64-2

and you should be running Google-earth-pro without problems. I if doesn't run, then your system is bad.

As this version has extra features, it is also somewhat bigger as the previous versions and consequently it takes a couple of seconds longer to come up. among other things, photos are no more served by Panramio (P. was quicker I guess!). This version is 53 Mb -compressed- against 47 of previous...

You can make GE lighter if you have some qt libraries in your system, by deleting the GE libraries you have duplicated (for advanced users only) and repacking GE.

Add those missing libraries and Enjoy GE :D

Thanks Wread,

Please guys, keep non official Porteus posts out of the mainstream forum. I don't want this to turn into a mess. For example post about APorteus ONLY in the Aporteus thread. Post about Nemesis ONLY in the nemesis thread. In this one thread we have three different variations of the official Porteus mentioned.

@brokenman It was my fault. Sorry to mess things up

It happens to me that I try to build up modules in Aporteus/Nemesis and then try to get them work in normal Porteus. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes not. In between I learn how to strip unnecessary stuff and refine the package building process.
