It would require downloading the existing one from v3.1 and seeing what packages are in it, then updating everything. Anything that is compiled because it doesn't exist in slackware will have a -1ftm or -1Ahau suffix.
With midnight command find file there is nothing ending in -1ftm or -1Ahau. In addition, I have used your script update-module 07-printing.xzm. I would be surprised that it could change something. My intuition is that ahau has used a .deb printing package that he has minimalized to fit porteus use.

I think that the good approach would be to proceed would be to build cups, system-config-printer and simple-scan, strip the whole thing down and replace the differing packages of the structure to those of ahau's printing module.

Downloaded google-chrome-53.0.2785.92-x86_64-1, it activated okay, and also starts okay.
I also checked the md5sum and it matches.

I started it as normal user, of course, and via terminal to better see possible error messages.

I notice that there are 2 identical internet\Google Chrome links in my XFCe menu. Why is that so? They look the same? Are they different? Why are there 2?

And last but not least, while Chrome itself starts okay, it is not able to access the net. I have no clue why not, any console based programs can, palemoon can.
Chrome tries to load 2 pages:
chrome://chrome-signin/?access_point=0&reason=0
http://tools.google.com/chrome/intl/en/welcome.html

Both are in infinite loop without loading anything.

This is what the startup of chrome tells me:

Code: Select all

$ google-chrome-stable
[26702:26702:0925/144449:ERROR:nacl_fork_delegate_linux.cc(315)] Bad NaCl helper startup ack (0 bytes)
[26694:26694:0925/144456:ERROR:native_backend_gnome_x.cc(79)] Unable to load symbol gnome_keyring_attribute_list_new: /usr/lib64/libgnome-keyring.so.0: undefined symbol: gnome_keyring_attribute_list_new
NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Operation not permitted).
NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Operation not permitted).
Also, when I try to open settings, (via menu->settings) chrome again opens a new tab, this time chrome://settings/ and again is in infinite loop without loading or doing anything.
Also, when I try to go to menu -> about Google chrome, nothing happens...

Also annoyingly, when I exited chrome it was still running:

Code: Select all

# ps ax|grep google
26694 pts/1 Sl+ 1:21 /opt/google/chrome/chrome
26702 pts/1 S+ 0:01 /opt/google/chrome/chrome --type=zygote
26773 pts/1 S+ 0:02 /opt/google/chrome/chrome
26927 pts/1 S+ 0:02 /opt/google/chrome/chrome
27059 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto google
I could kill 2 of these with killall -9 chrome, but 2 others refused to get killed and I had to kill them with kill -9 PID...

All in all, quite disappointing. Any ideas what went wrong?

Maybe someone else can tell you. I only ran the the scripts and build them to share. That file or module been downloaded 17 times and you are the first with a problem. One thing you could run the script and build it and see if the problem is still there. It could be I'm using Mate to build them. I'm SORRY I can't help you.

This problem here.

There are some Desktop that will show 2 but in Mate it only shows 1.

Okay... Did you use a pBuild script to make it?

(I downloaded an Firefox for what I had to do, what failed with Palemoon, so currently I am not in need of Chrome)

I use brokenman scripts to build those modules I'm posting. I thought a new member would use them tell they learn how to use the scripts. Over all what I'm doing has a good download turn out. I even put Mate x86_64 rc5.iso and member download it which is great.

/usr/share/applications/browser.desktop

This is a desktop file to make an (update-able) icon appear on all desktop panels. It is a copy of the google chrome desktop file. For some reason the NoDisplay=true entry is being ignored by some desktops.

Not sure about the other problems. I use google-chrome and haven't noticed any problems. Will have to build it again to see if anything has changed.

But what would happen if the user wants to have 2 different browsers at the same time?

Then the never loaded one would seemingly erase the older one from the start menu? Is that really the best way solving that?

@jack
Once more very useful thread.
Thanks.

I have been downloading libreoffice each time with the rc 3.2 management of different versions.
