Simple scan is a very easy to use gui interface for scanning purposes:
https://launchpad.net/simple-scan

Its modus operandi is said to be so easy that in the slackware repostitories it has replace xsane in the more recent versions of slackware (invoking xsane will yield instead simple-scan):
http://lifehacker.com/5483366/simple-sc ... r+friendly
http://lwn.net/Articles/377063/

It is available thru PPM (Porteus Package Manager, Salix repository) or the salix repositories as a 13.1 slackware package:
http://slackware.org.uk/salix/x86_64/13 ... mple-scan/

In addition, you need the sane package.

Once the package is installed, all you have to do is to install the scanner driver specific to your printer. See usb driver install of scanner (an example for the MFC-7860DW brother printer:
https://porteus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1336

Xsane works on porteus 1.2, but not on porteus 1.0 for the 32bit edition. I hope it works fine for the 64bit edition.

Why not having it directly into the porteus repository? I imagine that this would please rava.

It is. And as sane is a necessary package to get simple-scan to work, it would be appreciated to have sane also.

Thanks.

@francois

sane has been added to the repo long time ago:

Code: Select all

sane-1.0.22-x86_64-2.xzm	2012-Jan-08 20:32:22
pls use PPM to download it with all deps.

just checked and simple-scan is also there:

Code: Select all

simple-scan-2.32.0.1-x86_64-1gv.xzm	2012-Jan-10 13:56:13
PPM has 'search' function which works pretty well, plese use it when you are not sure if something is in the repo or not.

In fact I usually use it, but usually after slackyd as there is a better offer of packages on slackyd. Maybe I should do it the other way around systematically.
