Skype 4 is out. Download from Porteus download page.
http://ponce.cc/porteus/x86_64/modules/network/

skype_static-4.0.0.7-x86_64-1sl.xzm

I have tested this module and it will give segmentation fault when start.

Download the static version from Skype download page and copy the skype(38MB) file from it and replace the one in skype_static-4.0.0.7-x86_64-1sl.xzm.
You should have no problem starting Skype now.

Sorry if this is not for here, but I have made update on the skype and the multilib package for porteus 1.2 rc2.

Skype 4.0.0.7 (static) requires /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4 and compat32 presents only /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3(.9.x).

If you want I can upload them somewhere.

@Lucifer

thanks for your offer but few hours ago i have updated Skype-4.0.0.7 package from the main repo as per cttan instruction. libtiff.so.4 symlink is also there so no need for compat32.

btw: i have converted the repo to be compatible with porteus-1.2 (which is not released yet):

Cheers

When I start it nothing happend. Then I tried it on a konsole and it returned :

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ skype
guest@porteus:~$ /usr/bin/skype: line 16: 2898 Segmentation fault LD_PRELOAD=/usr/share/skype/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so GCONV_PATH=/usr/share/skype/lib32/gconv QT_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/share/skype/lib32/plugins /usr/share/skype/lib32/ld-linux.so.2 --library-path /usr/share/skype/lib32/ /usr/share/skype/skype
Could you please solve it ?

Hi misguipda,

I think you need to change the subject to Skype 4.0.0.8 x86_64

You are right, I have tried this module and it failed with seg fault as well.

Follow my steps here:-
1. Download the static version from Skype download page
2. Copy the skype(38MB) file from it
3. Extract skype_static-4.0.0.7-x86_64-1sl.xzm(PPM version) into a folder.
4. Replace the skype file in it with the one you have download.
5. Right click on the folder and click Build Porteus xzm module ...

Activate the new module and you should have no problem starting Skype now.

Pls note the version is 4.0.0.7 when you want to download from Skype website.
I have not tried the newer version as I am still on the old version.

Sorry for the late reply.
