I must thank the enthusiasts and creator of this topic. Because of these 80+ modules, I took interest in Porteus and created various other modules of my own. Also, for me linux (Porteus) has become unbreakable. This was helpful. Thanks a bunch.

Is that deja-dup.42.9-duplicity the same as this https://duplicity.gitlab.io/ ?

Because I am looking for a duplicity module, as in: the backup software.

Hi
Gomway
Thanks for your modules, I'm not the author of the Ikki Boot project, just a fan.

Rava
I think it's the same duplicity because version 0.8.17 existed and was released on 2020-11-11
https://launchpad.net/duplicity/+downlo ... 0&start=10

Wine and Qemu are available :celebrate3:

Thanks for the heads up.
Sometimes it gets bothersome when some unrelated software projects use the very same name.

I do not get how https://sourceforge.net operates.
I now downloaded some modules via https://sourceforge.net/projects/ikkibo ... s/include/ and then sourceforge.net suggests always the same crap to me:
Other Useful Business Software
Endpoint security for mac beyond malware protection: stop hackers in their tracks.

Mobile and Mac endpoint security and malware protection
Yeah, sure, sourceforge.net, "Useful Software" my ass. How could a software for mac be of any help for a Linux user?
Seems they push whatever the want to push and ignore what the user is interested in. :wall:

But wait! There is a bright side to all of it.
I tried opening the crap link in a private window to only get this thanks to my uBlock Origin
uBlock Origin has prevented the following page from loading:

https://a.slashdotmedia.com/www/deliver ... _bannerid= [CENSORED]

Because of the following filter

||a.slashdotmedia.com^

Found in: uBlock filters
That is hilarious, sourceforge.net. ImageImage
Cheers!

poor-man-s-radio-player.xzm is nice, but…
when a radio station is not working for me for any reasons, it should be more verbose.
Instead it does play nothing, displays nothing and just returns to the previous screen.

Example:
Categories -> 04 Classical

PMRP changes to
Stations Playing Classical Music :

Choosing 04 Ambiance Classique :

Code: Select all

 Playlist :

appears for about a second, nothing is played, then PMRP goes back to
Stations Playing Classical Music :

Added in 1 minute 24 seconds:
But since

Code: Select all

guest@rava:~$ file /usr/bin/pmrp
/usr/bin/pmrp: Bourne-Again shell script, ASCII text executable
is a text based script one could easily add some verbosity to it.

Added in 2 hours 51 minutes 18 seconds:

Code: Select all

Interestingly enough, one can use the link as provided by sourceforge.net - but the file name would be "download" instead of, in this case, gimp-2.10.30.x86_64.xzm.

But as wget states :

Code: Select all

http status 302 means a redirect.
So instead of using the URL as given by sourceforge.net trying wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/ikkibo ... x86_64.xzm , or in my example (since I already downloaded gimp-2.10.30.x86_64.xzm, I just had to rename it) here shown with ddrescue-1.27.x86_64.xzm

This reference is for comparing the latest stable version of uGet to the version available in a distro repository.

My system Port 5.01:

Code: Select all

guest@rava:~$ cat /etc/porteus/*
001-core.xzm:20230922
002-xorg.xzm:20231001
002-xtra.xzm:20230922
003-xfce.xzm:20230922
06-man.xzm:20230915
initrd.xz:20220928
I use the cheatcode of "3" as described in porteus-v5.0-x86_64.cfg which came in handy this time.

porteus-v5.0-x86_64.cfg :

Code: Select all

## This tells porteus to boot into text mode
3
Just downloaded tilix-1.9.5.x86_64.xzm

Confirmed it's sha1sum
activated it
started it as guest via selecting tilix from the main XFCE menu.

Aaand it wrecked my system. :coffee:

Symptoms: The DE (XFCE) was not responding, it froze. I could switch to the Virtual Consoles (VT) and do some work there.

Determined which process was tilix using by using my psg function

Code: Select all

root@rava:~# type psg
psg is a function
psg ()
{
    /bin/ps ax | /bin/grep $* | /bin/grep -v grep
}
in a guest VT:

Code: Select all

guest@rava:~$ psg tilix
21696 tty2 T 0:00 sudo bash -c /usr/bin/launch_tilix.sh
guest@rava:~$ kill 21696
guest@rava:~$ kill 21696
guest@rava:~$ kill -9 21696
guest@rava:~$ kill -9 21696
Not really a successful kill.
Switched to a root VT:

Code: Select all

root@rava:~# kill -9 21696
root@rava:~# ps ax|grep 21696
21696 tty2 Z 0:00 [sudo] <defunct>
21788 tty4 S+ 0:00 /bin/grep --color=auto 21696
Z means "Zombie" and status <defunct> confirms the zombie. <irony>Yay. </irony>

Switching back to the DE displayed a black background and the mouse cursor with the hourglass (=DE busy) on endless loop.
Killed X via Ctrl+Alt+Backspace

Then copied what the VT that I started X from reported:

Code: Select all

It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of othe
rs.
       #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibi
lity.

For security reasons, the password you type will not be visible.

pale moon: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0
.
The "We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:" part lets me presume the crash happened because

Code: Select all

sudo bash -c /usr/bin/launch_tilix.sh
tried to switch to user root- but there was no terminal to display the password prompt.
Hence the XFCE freeze and the need to kill X.

Could it be when the user not starts tilix from the terminal but from the DE menu a graphical sudo is needed?
Cheers!

Hi,
I can't answer all the questions, as I'm not the author of these modules.
uget version 2.2.3 is here :
https://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/ ... mit=Search+...
and here
https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/uget

For tilix, you may need to activate this module first
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ikkibo ... m/download

it's indicated here
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ikkibo ... d/download
"Some are launched with the sudo command. sudo-without-pass.xzm will be needed for these modules."

Have a nice day

Thanks, I try that. I will download sudo-without-pass.xzm and look into it. :)

Added in 4 minutes 11 seconds:
From sudo-without-pass.xzm
/etc/sudoers.d/guest

Code: Select all

guest ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL
Does that mean that now all and any programs run by guest can access any root programs?
That is quite the weakening of security.

I am not a fan of such solutions. Image Hopefully donald or ncmprhnsbl or beny comment on that matter. Am I too paranoid or is me being sceptical against sudo-without-pass.xzm justified?

Added in 3 minutes 40 seconds:
As I wrote above, I still think using a graphical sudo is the better solution for tilix, while sudo-without-pass.xzm mainly weakens security.
Cheers!
