You mean, as in: Activate the module manually and not as a base/ default at startup?

Added in 15 minutes 53 seconds:
Update
sadly, I have once again severe issues reaching a site.
In the browser, nothing seemingly happens, the new tab with
" https://windscribe.com/install/desktop/linux_deb_x64 "
in it opens, the tab shows "Connecting…" and the favicon of the tab is the rotating circle, but it never loads.
Using wget I get this:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/tmp/mc-guest$ wget https://windscribe.com/install/desktop/linux_deb_x64
--2021-12-04 06:15:00-- https://windscribe.com/install/desktop/linux_deb_x64
Resolving windscribe.com (windscribe.com)... 104.20.75.194, 104.20.74.194
Connecting to windscribe.com (windscribe.com)|104.20.75.194|:443... connected.
After that nothing is happening, even after waiting 14 minutes for wget to give me further info, wget appears to be frozen. While the resolving of the URL into 104.20.75.194 and 104.20.74.194 and also the "connected" windscribe.com shows me my internet connection works, but there is no reply whatsoever from the URL.

After a whooping 15 minutes wget ends the attempt with

Code: Select all

Unable to establish SSL connection.
and the non-zero return value of 4.

Testing another site with wget also using https works just fine:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/tmp/mc-guest$ wget https://example.com
--2021-12-04 06:31:50-- https://example.com/
Resolving example.com (example.com)... 93.184.216.34, 2606:2800:220:1:248:1893:25c8:1946
Connecting to example.com (example.com)|93.184.216.34|:443... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 1256 (1.2K) [text/html]
Saving to: ‘index.html’

index.html          100%[===================>]   1.23K  --.-KB/s    in 0s

2021-12-04 06:31:51 (15.5 MB/s) - ‘index.html’ saved [1256/1256]
I then asked https://www.downforeveryoneorjust.me/stats.php
Windscribe.com

Website looks online and reachable. It takes average response time 0.02 sec.The website is probably down only for you...
Kulle, can you please upload the module you created for me to test?
Thanks in advance.

Update 2
maybe your module is not needed. I was able to download both https://mirror.repohost.de/disastrousau ... pkg.tar.xz and https://aur.andontie.net/x86_64/windscr ... pkg.tar.xz

I never converted a pkg.tar.* into a module before, unsure how to manually handle these files:

Code: Select all

$ls -o .[BIMP]*
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 5412 2021-01-13 16:27 .BUILDINFO
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 509 2021-01-13 16:27 .INSTALL
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 742 2021-01-13 16:27 .MTREE
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 374 2021-01-13 16:27 .PKGINFO

$ file .[BIMP]*
.BUILDINFO: ASCII text
.INSTALL: ASCII text
.MTREE: gzip compressed data, from Unix, original size modulo 2^32 1795
.PKGINFO: ASCII text
Cheers!

Windscribe VPN is a Canada-based provider that promises to help you
browse the web privately. It contains a set of tools that work
together to block ad trackers and web beacons, restore access to
blocked content and help you safeguard your privacy online.
You can use Windscribe for free, for as long as you like.
With a confirmed email address you get 10GB/month of data
and access to over 10 countries.

The following can be used to start/stop Windscribe automatically:
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.windscribe ]; then
/etc/rc.d/rc.windscribe start
fi

/etc/rc.d/rc.local_shutdown
if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.windscribe ]; then
/etc/rc.d/rc.windscribe stop
fi

Hi Rava,
I downloaded the deb file:
https://windscribe.com/install/desktop/linux_deb_x64
And then deb2xzm
Yes I activate the module manually (if necessary) and not as a base/standard at startup.
I've been using Winscribe a lot now
it works fine.
"windscribe --help" lists all available commands

ignore this, this is just for systemd systems
you have to either: add to rc.local what beny wrote^ VPN Windscribe Cli for Porteus (Post by beny #86001) and restart your system
(maybe chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.windscribe too)
or if activating after boot:

Code: Select all

# sh /etc/rc.d/rc.windscribe start
or simply:

Code: Select all

# windscribe start

I managed to convert windscribe-cli-1.4_51-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz into windscribe-cli-1.4_51.x86.64-pkg-1.txz and that into an module.
The issue: there is a .INSTALL in the pkg.tar.xz root that xz2txz.shV2016-09-27 ignores.
See the details about the matter in the xz2txz.sh thread here: Script to make Slackware Compliant package of xz, deb (Post by Rava #86012)
Cheers!

hi Rava strip the package xz into a directory remove all the pkginfo install buildinfo and mtree and if you know that is a slackware package make an install directory put in the doinst.sh and slack-desc into it open a terminal cd into the main directory and:
makepkg -l y -c n ../app-version-arch-tag.tgz this is used also for the building of a source code package, when you have a fake install directory.after a tgz2xzm and voila' you have the package.

Hi Rava,
I've downloaded the deb file (see #1 above), and then deb2xzm
Here is the xzm file
https://www.mediafire.com/file/f8jrn4iv ... 4.xzm/file

Use:
activate manually and wait a few seconds.
Then in a terminal: windscribe login, windscribe connect, etc...
(The start command is carried out automatically by activate)
I testet on Porteus 4.0 Xfce
