Maybe it would have been wiser not to call the thing youtube-dl.
So lets have someone outside the influence of the RIAA host the code or fork it.
Not everyone lives under their thumb.

<server or mirror>/x86_64/Porteus-v5.0/modules/ afaik, it should work on any porteus version or arch, since it's a static build..
and if using 5.0* , just use the browser update tool..

Hi folks, does the update by itself still work?
I presume not since the old code prior the RIAA tomfoolery would try to link to only USA nwebsite, or have the coders been clever enough to include alternative URLs in case the USA based ones got RIAAd.

I still run my patched together January 5.0rc1 with the latest kernel that supports
my Nvidia cards - 5.4.30.
So, the yt-downloader live script might not yet work for me.
Or did some genius hacker managed to "update" the Nvidia source code of the drivers ?
Cheers!

I presume folks tried using different kernels. Have you heard of such tests?Ed_P wrote: ↑31 Oct 2020, 00:12Not according to this thread: Porteus 5.0 RC2 bug reports It's better than rc1 but not finished yet.
I shall PM Donald to see if there is news if my kernel 5.4.30 is still the newest to run with my Nvidia driver.
Cheers!

Netzpolitik.org on wikipedia. The site on the web is this: https://netzpolitik.org/
Translated via yours truly:
Especially because netzpolitik.org - AFAIK - always hits the nail on its head, they never fail to be spot on in what they report on. Amazing!
And please recall: you hardly hear me sing such high praise to anyone person or anyone organization, but for Netzpolitik and Amnesty International I do so.
And yes, it is also easy for you to read the Netzpolitik articles, I used google translate above and did not make a single correction, to demonstrate how readable the results are nowadays.
Also it is highly ironic using google to translate a good article on the censorship of youtube-dl.
https://bits.netzpolitik.org/?na=v&nk=7 ... 532&id=146netzpolitik.org is a German language blog on digital rights and digital culture. Among other topics, it covers mass surveillance, open source software, data protection and privacy and net neutrality. The blog was founded in 2002 by Markus Beckedahl, who still leads the project today, supported by more than 30 other contributors.
Translated via yours truly:
Looking forward to the EFF & FotPF vs RIAA court case on that.Music industry is taking action against YouTube-dl and is hindering our work
Hello,
Last week the US music industry successfully took action against Youtube-DL on the Github coding platform with a copyright claim. Since then, the source code of the software including some forks is no longer available there, at least not officially.
The popular Linux command line tool makes it possible to download content from streaming platforms such as Youtube. The lobby group RIAA argues that this bypasses the technical systems for the protection of content and thus copyrighted content can be downloaded by RIAA artists without authorization.
That is a dangerous development. Not only because Github complied too quickly with what I saw as the arguments put forward. But also because Youtube-DL is very popular with journalists and archivists for good reason. If we have to secure content on Youtube and Co. as part of our investigative research, we resort to it. Because it works well and is much more trustworthy than the many browser extensions with similar options, where you never know for sure whether surfing data is being processed and sold in the background.
Youtube-DL is a dual-use tool, no question about it. It can be used to back up copyrighted content, but it can also be used to download free content if the license explicitly allows it. The software can still be downloaded from the project's website. But it is quite possible that cracking down on the Github repository was just the music industry's first step.
I hope that US organizations like the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Freedom of the Press Foundation will go to court and successfully enforce that no unnecessary obstacles are put in the way of the development and use of Youtube-DL.

^ You are up early or are you abroad?
5.0rc2 might have it already but I am mainly use the rc1 cause that runs the kernel okay needed for my nvidia driver.
youtube-dl-2020.11.01-noarch-1ncm is in fact youtube-dl-2020.11.01.1 - realized filesizes being identical so checked md5sum and both have bef5447e9267baac753306e22f4bcffe
Basically wasted time cause maintainer 1ncm being too lazy *ahem* forgot to name the created version precisely.
