The good looking and easiest desktop OS

Post#1 by francois » 20 Dec 2011, 03:15

What is the best looking and at the same time easiest desktop (including window$ and mac o$) that you would reccomend to your mother and law, or if you dislike her to your beloved younger sister? Would you let her install it by herself?

Are these answer exempt of partiality or conflict of interest? :D

I'll be honest here, and it sucks -- but I would tell (and have told) my mother-in-law to buy a computer with the latest windows on it. Why? because I'm the only person she knows who could explain how to do anything in linux, and I get bothered by her often enough as it is, when she can't figure out how to close a popup and get back to facebook. At least this way, my wife and her sister can help her out, too. And no, I would never have her install it herself... she can barely find the power button.

Now, somebody who was a little more computer-literate and was looking to have an active relationship with their OS...I would definitely point them to linux, and probably to KDE-4. But, I would probably give them a handful of live CD's (porteus on top ;) ) and tell them to try them all and see what they liked the best.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

My answer was impartial  I am mostly using KDE4 for developing and surfing.

+1 Ahau.

Simple, familiar and the kid next door can help with problems. I get a job when it breaks down and they are at the top of their game. If everybody was using KDE4 then us nix users wouldn't bee 'cool' anymore.

You might be right in saying so. However, how would be a world dominated by linux? Lets dream. 8)

Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).
