hi Rava would you try abcde....we are too old to back to school maybe not work.
abcde is the thing for me it seems, it also needs cd-discid.
I combined it into abcde-2.7.1-noarch+cd-discid-1.4-x86_64-2jsc.xzm using http://slackware.schoepfer.info/14.1_64 ... 4-2jsc.txz
and http://slackware.schoepfer.info/14.1_no ... h-1jsc.txz (Schoepfer is the audio king in the Linux world, BTW) and it is a mere 108.00 KB small. :)

[SOLVED] Transfer audio CD to disk

Post#17 by Rava » 07 Feb 2022, 21:29

Seems setting abcde correct for using CDDB is not that trivial.

I changed its settings in /etc/abcde.conf from

Code: Select all

#CDDBURL="http://freedb.freedb.org/~cddb/cddb.cgi"
to

Code: Select all

CDDBURL="http://gnudb.gnudb.org"
and also to

Code: Select all

CDDBURL="http://gnudb.gnudb.org/~cddb/cddb.cgi"
I still get this:

Code: Select all

CDDB unavailable.
Does anyone know the working URL for /etc/abcde.conf CDDBURL ?

Added in 4 minutes 7 seconds:
https://abcde.einval.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=155 claims that

Code: Select all

CDDBURL="http://gnudb.gnudb.org/~cddb/cddb.cgi"
is working but for me it is not…

Added in 10 minutes 34 seconds:
And using this setup

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/thosb ... abcde.conf
results in this error

Code: Select all

which: no eyeD3 in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games)
[ERROR] abcde: eyeD3 is not in your path.
[INFO] Define the full path to the executable if it exists on your system.
even so there is no "eye" to be found in that abcde.conf
Seems silly me not gets abcde to run with CDDB support. :cry:

Added in 6 minutes 18 seconds:
Seems I was mistaken, I again used the same conf as above and now it works.
Here my /etc/abcde.conf

Code: Select all

# System defaults for abcde version 2.7.1
# Nothing in this file is uncommented by default.
#
# If you wish to override these system-wide settings, create your own
# .abcde.conf file in your home directory.

# CDDB options
# Choose whether you want to use CDDB or Musicbrainz. Default is CDDB
# currently recognized options are 'cddb' and 'musicbrainz'
CDDBMETHOD=cddb

# If you wish to use a different CDDB server, edit this line.
# If you just wanted to use a proxy server, just set your http_proxy
# environment variable - wget will use it correctly.
CDDBURL="http://gnudb.gnudb.org/~cddb/cddb.cgi"

# The CDDB protocol level.
# Right now 5 is latin1 output and 6 is UTF8 encoding.
CDDBPROTO=6

# The CDDB protocol requires hello information, including a valid username
# and hostname. If you feel paranoid about giving away such info, edit this
# line - the format is username@hostname.
HELLOINFO="`whoami`@`hostname`"

# This controls the email address CDDB changes are submitted to.
#CDDBSUBMIT=freedb-submit@freedb.org

# The following options control whether or not fetched CDDB entries
# are cached locally in $CDDBLOCALDIR
#CDDBCOPYLOCAL="n"
#CDDBLOCALDIR="$HOME/.cddb"
#CDDBLOCALRECURSIVE="y"

# If NOSUBMIT is set to y, then abcde will never prompt asking if you
# wish to submit your edited cddb file.
#NOSUBMIT=n

# If NOCDDBQUERY is set to y, then abcde will never even try to access
# the CDDB server; running abcde will automatically drop you into a
# blank cddb file to edit at your leisure. This is the same as the
# -n option.  NOCDDBQUERY=y implies NOSUBMIT=y.
#NOCDDBQUERY=n

# Select here if you want to use the locally stored CDDB entries.
# This is useful if you do a lot of editing to those CDDB entries.
# Also, other tools like Grip store CDDB entries under $HOME/.cddb,

# sure that CDDBLOCALRECURSIVE is also set to "y".)
#CDDBUSELOCAL="n"

# List, separated with a comma, the fields we want the parsing function to

# or "YEAR, GENRE"

hi Rava would you try abcde....we are too old to back to school maybe not work.
Thanks for the tip, lookie here:
abcde-2.7.1-noarch + cd-discid-1.4-x86_64-2jsc - fixed abcde.conf
Cheers!
