Unfortunately, usm is not 100% error free. Aber machmal liegt der Fehler auch an den Daten der jeweiligen Distributionen. Und da kann dann usm nix für.
Cheers!

usm also has a bug not liking some files in the current dir so if getting a module gives errors try cd to empty dir and then do usm -g package ...

hi slacky repos is obsolete or outdated usm hang on this stone, try to use slpkg instead of usm, because you can choose the repository with usm you don't.

Hello raja. I did it this way because the http://slackware.org.uk/slacky would not work.
It would freeze.

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -u all
slackware was updated 83 seconds ago. Skipping.
slackwarepatches was updated 73 seconds ago. Skipping.
 Starting slacky database update
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz -->
And the same for http://slack.isper.sk/pub

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -u all
slackware was updated 220 seconds ago. Skipping.
slackwarepatches was updated 210 seconds ago. Skipping.
 Starting slacky database update
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz -->

usm error

@beny:
There must be a way to remove slacky from the code. Isn´t it? I have looked the error messages and they are not present in the /usr/bin/usm script file. It must call some other scripts.

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -u slackonly
grep: /etc/usm/mirrors-slacky.txt: No such file or directory
 Starting slackonly database update
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 DONE
Downloading: PACKAGES.TXT.gz DONE
Downloading: LIBS.TXT.gz DONE
File verification was good.
Optimizing manifest
 slackonly database updated.

root@porteus:~# usm -g abiword
grep: /etc/usm/mirrors-slacky.txt: No such file or directory

You are missing required database files!
 Please run: usm -u all

root@porteus:~# usm -g abiword

You are missing required database files!
 Please run: usm -u all

root@porteus:~#
I will get to slpkg and to sbopkg. We will need them for porteus 5.0 anyway.
Thanks.

Hi francois
remove slacky from the DISTROS line:
DISTROS="slackware slackwarepatches salix alien ponce slackonly"
in /etc/usm/usm.conf

EDIT
Another way to circumvent the "gzip: /var/usm/slacky/CHECKSUMS.md5.gz: unexpected end of file" error:
a)Leave usm.conf as is
b)Downlosd that file from the slacky repo > extract it [[ e.g. with P7ZIP [the extracted file is readable in a text editor]]
> copy the CHECKSUMS.md5 file into the /var/usm/slacky folder.
Should work - not tested yet. :)

Hi Donald,
I tried your method.
But apparently you don't have to unzip

Code: Select all

Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 DONE
Downloading: PACKAGES.TXT.gz DONE

"> copy the CHECKSUMS.md5 file into the /var/usm/slacky folder"

Even if I copy CHECKSUMS.md5.gz into the /var/usm/slacky folder, the error persists

Code: Select all

 Starting slacky database update
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 DONE
Downloading: PACKAGES.TXT.gz DONE
Downloading: LIBS.TXT.gz DONE

Yep, forget the slacky crap, the mirrors [etc/usm/mirrors-slacky.txt] do not work at all
or deliver wrong files.

example: [ slackware.org.uk/slacky chosen in mirrors-slacky.txt ]

check the file (copied from /var/usm/slacky/)
guest@porteus:~/Test$ file CHECKSUMS.md5.gz
CHECKSUMS.md5.gz: HTML document, ASCII text, with very long lines
-- rename it .html > open in Browser = it is just the front page.

Conclusion:
Remove slacky from the DISTROS line -- until there is a working mirror.

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't slacky the experimental (read slackware current) version
of salix?
If so, using this repo (w)could break the porteus install anyway.
