Having fun with NETSURF browser

Post#1 by nanZor » 26 Apr 2019, 10:26

Just picked up Alien Bob's slackware package for the Netsurf browser in Porteus. I downloaded using USM and had Porteus convert it to an xzm "bundle" with all the dependencies. Using the 3.7 version, although I see that a 3.8 is available from the project site now.

It seems to fill a niche for a small lightweight (no javascript) browser, that no - I'm not going to use for banking, a kiosk, or heavy web browsing. I'm using it mainly for casual internal file browsing (using the file:/// url), and when coding simple web pages for my own use - without having to resort to the big players.

Formerly I used to use Dillo browser for this purpose, and commend the dev, but lately Netsurf seems to fill my needs a bit better - although there ARE additional free licenses attached that some might not be cool with from a purists standpoint.

Independent, still active, very small - usable with a framebuffer even - lotsa' fun!
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth
