Trouble with deb2xzm

Downloaded latest Skype DEB file from https://repo.skype.com/latest/skypeforlinux-64.deb
deb2xzm failed:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/tmp$ deb2xzm skypeforlinux-64.deb
Checking required libraries ...
/usr/bin/deb2xzm: line 14: ldconfig: command not found.
 #############################
 # Missing library #
 #############################
You are missing libbfd. Please activate 05_devel
or run the command: getpkg binutils and installpkg the file.
[code]

"Please activate 05_devel"
Why??
05-devel.xzm is in folder porteus/modules

Now I removed 05-devel.xzm from folder modules
and activated binutils:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/tmp$ activate binutils-2.32-x86_64-1.xzm
glibtop(c=1865): [DEBUG] open.c:53 glibtop_open_l(): SIZEOF: 40 - 65648 - 248 - 65624 - 224 - 65624
glibtop(c=1865): [DEBUG] open.c:163 glibtop_open_l(): Calling sysdeps open function.
glibtop(c=1865): [DEBUG] init.c:229 glibtop_init_s(): init_s with features=0x7ffffff and flags=0
Quiet mode: off
Updating shared library links: /sbin/ldconfig
guest@porteus:/tmp$ deb2xzm skypeforlinux-64.deb
Checking required libraries ...

/usr/bin/deb2xzm: Zeile 14: ldconfig: Kommando nicht gefunden.
 #############################
 # Missing library #
 #############################

You are missing libbfd. Please
activate 05_devel or run the
 command: getpkg binutils
and installpkg the file.
But the error remained!

guest@porteus:/tmp$ deb2xzm skypeforlinux-64.deb
I have a totally unusual, crazy idea:
run the command as root.

Thank you Donald,
Why message "Please activate 05_devel ..."
why not message "run the command as root" ??
But latest Skype does not work:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:/tmp$ su
Password:
root@porteus:/tmp# activate binutils-2.32-x86_64-1.xzm
Quiet mode: off
Updating shared library links: /sbin/ldconfig
root@porteus:/tmp# deb2xzm skypeforlinux-64.deb
Checking required libraries ...

Verifying package skypeforlinux-64.tgz.
Installing package skypeforlinux-64.tgz:
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:
Package skypeforlinux-64.tgz installed.

Creating /tmp/deb2xzm2460/skypeforlinux-64.xzm

root@porteus:/tmp# activate skypeforlinux-64.xzm
Quiet mode: off
Updating shared library links: /sbin/ldconfig
Updating XFCE menu: update-desktop-database
root@porteus:/tmp# skypeforlinux
root@porteus:/tmp#
The icon appears in the panel for half a second and disappears again.
That's all.

might need to use the slackbuild for this one or maybe this package: skypeforlinux-8.40.76.71-x86_64-1dj.txz
to use the SlackBuild:
go to https://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.2 ... eforlinux/
download skypeforlinux.tar.gz and extract it
place skypeforlinux-64.deb in the extracted directory
run the Slackbuild(as root in the extracted directory): # sh skypeforlinux.SlackBuild
if all goes well, there will be a skypeforlinux<version>.txz in tmp
then just do txz2xzm on it ..

why? because skypeforlinux is built in need of systemd and we don't have that: https://github.com/maelnor/skype-dbus-mock
the slackbuild fixes that..

Hi ncmprhnsbl,
I did the procedure: downloaded, extracted ... Run script ...
But skypeforlinux-8.34.0.78-x86_64-1_SBo.xzm does not work:
The icon appears in the panel for half a second and disappears again. That's all.
But skypeforlinux-8.40.76.71-x86_64-1dj.xzm works.
Thank you.
From where you can download the latest version skypeforlinux-<version>-1dj.txz ?
Hi beny,
rpm2xzm also does not work, the same error: The icon appears ...

very interesting.... looking at their(slackel) build script: http://www.slackel.gr/repo/source/extra ... x/SLKBUILD
they're not doing anything special(basicly like deb2xzm)
perhaps there's something in the latest versions that needs special attention..

Now I do not understand the world anymore!
:D ..it appears to have a circular motion..
my guess is that there is some difference between skypeforlinux-64.deb and skypeforlinux_8.43.76.38_amd64.deb
