That's the one. And the title image is highly on-topic. It shows the British troops, during World War 1, when the Canadians and Australians bled to death in Flandern, the British said "Sorry, we have to invade a peaceful country in the Middle East, cause we heard about what petrol and especially Diesel will be able to do. So we are going into the Near and Middle East [the names Near East, Middle east and Far east are all Eurocentric anyway...] instead while our allies are bleeding for our cause in France.
Back in that time, it took the most heavy warships two weeks to refuel with coal, but with Mr. Diesel and his invention, the Diesel engine, the Brits have been the first to realize how that will revolutionize the warfare: it only takes half a day to completely fuel the same sized war ship... and they have been the first to go into the countries that have the most oil...

Hopefully it acts as the same eye-opener for you as it did for me.
And I fully agree with all 3 reviews, especially the longer one by one "Vuthy Chrun".
I eager await your thoughts on the book, francois. It took me only a few days to read it. It is a long, detailed book but it's all about the reasons for the most wars in the last century and this century. Like a compelling political spy thriller... with the plot twist that it's a
factual book and no fiction.
And because it explains so much and shows connections where one thought there were none, at least I read it quite quickly...
Just a tip: Don't order it online, go to a local bookshop and when they ask for your name for the order, use a fake one. "They" record all buyers of all and any "unwanted books", and folks have gotten into trouble because of that. Like, one female peace researcher ordering books, scientific books about the Israel-Palestine issue. And at the border this info (and only this info, not one of these books have ever been banned) was enough to refuse her entry into Israel.

The media in US, Canada, Mexico etc. Only say what they are allowed to say.
Sadly, much media in Russia and China is not that much better, they have other issues, but they also serve other masters, and if a small poor country with resources gets under the thumb of: USA, UK, China or Russia is not that much different... Or do you think when people in such country protest against the Chinese, or against the Russians they would say: "okay, we build you the streets, and/or train tracks, now you don't want to give us the promised resources, so we just leave"... No, they would want the resources.
But unlike the USA or the UK, the Chinese and Russians at least tell the poor country what the deal is about: "We build you the roads, and/or train tracks and help you with the setup for train operations, and in return we get the resources for a good price"
That might not be the best solution for a poor country, but it is still more honest, and a way better solution like the lies the USA and UK tell the international media, and start yet another war like in: Korea. Or Vietnam. Or Panama. Or against Iraq (Saddam Hussein) Or... Or... Or...
Aside from the idea to torn 7 countries apart in the next years. And when they say so, and start with Iraq and Syria... still the media won't make that one hell of a big headline story...
