There is no /lib/modules in the unpacked version of brhl2170wlpr-2.0.2-1.i386.rpm or .tgz .xzm. As mentioned in a previous post, Guest proposed rpm2tgz than tgz2lzm, and from memory this worked. I will check the procedure on slax 612 to be sure.

As you recommended I rpm2tgz, than unpack tgz and dir2xzm with the same negative result. I wonder if rpm2xzm on one hand, or rpm2tgz and tgz2xzm on the other hand are not simply all the same. Unless there is something that escape my understanding.

I will be back after more manipulations.

I finally achieved to get the xzm modules for these two printer drivers:

1) worked under slax 612.
2) downloaded rpm2lzm.xzm
3) exported brhl2170wlpr-2.0.2-1.i386.lzm and cupswrapperHL2170W-2.0.2-1.i386.lzm to porteus
4) converted with lzm2xzm command the two modules

They were activated adequately. As simple as that.

Why porteus is not able to do that? This is a good question.

hi francois you can manage rpm file with rpm2txz and then txz2xzm in 32 bit work if you want you can install directly txz file if you use the printer or software in resident way, i with 64 bit and brother dcp-197c no luck print do not run in 32 with slackware official work,or use vbox.

Thanks for the tip Beny. I will try your trick.

Presently, I am getting thru the process of getting the Brother solution for printers on Slax 612, just to see how come it worked 2 years ago. Even when you leave good traces of the procedure you can have a hard time to find your way. Hope to get enough time next weekend.

Meanwhile, I have built from scratch gutenprint to add it to cups and hplip. I was happy to see that it helped cu[s recognised my brother hl2170w. However, this seems not to be enough. When trying the print page I always get the error message:

''The page your are trying to view is the result of posted form data. If you resend the data, any action the form carried out (such as search or online purchase) will be repeated.''

Hi Beny. Thanks for the tip. I will try it. :)

@beny:
The detailed instructions for downgrading to cups at 1.4.3 version would be appreciated. Meanwhile, I will try to do it with slapt-get.

Everything was done under always fresh conditions.

1) downloaded thru slackyd cups 1.4.3-i486-3.
2) slapt-get, search cups, downgraded to cups 1.4.3-i486-3.
3) Starting cups in browser:
http://localhost:631/admin/

Working with a brother DCP-7020. I have to use the only driver available a DCP-1500. Looks good for now, the printer was installed with no error message. However, no printout. I will have to wait tonite at home with the brother hl-2170w.

To be followed.
