Type of Motherboard?

I can get this processor and would like to know what type of motherboard I would need to get? I have everything else but the motherboard. Is it worth doing?

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Hi until you get a better reply, what will you need from your pc eg video playing or video editting
imo the i7 is a better Cpu family but of course price values matter to me.
Since you are going 64 bit i suggest you go 8G RAM but i know offtopic

are you building it or someone else
Cheers

I will play FLAC 24/96 music and play video. And I all ready have 4 pc3 2gb memory sticks and SATA DVD Writer and a SATA 500gb 7200rpm. The cpu will cost me $0.00 it is free. I did a trade to get it. I might be able to get 4 pc3 4gb memory sticks if I need more memory. I'm going to build it.

Ok well is it worth doing I will leave to you again.

Now we know your cpu is free we use your link to get the socket type which is
FCLGA1366

also known as socket B
Unfortunately this is 2010 technology and is not listed in the mobo list at toms
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-23 ... -list.html
but there is some basic info
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pro ... 69-10.html

also it looks like after reading some duckduckgo posts using that quoted term your free cpu appears to be a server cpu and not a general purpose cpu. But your last answer does not actually change me from saying buy a cpu

As I like asus I can't use their online search probably because your socket is out-of-date
http://www.asus.com/support/cpu_support

but toms http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id- ... x5650.html
claims it might be the P6T

so another search shows
http://www.overclock.net/t/692643/do-fc ... therboards

Now assuming that info is still correct then 1366 search should work as it does for giga as per
http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/lis ... =0&p=2&v=1

###########################

so lets reverse your question.

What maker of motherboards do you trust in the past or now?

and then we can look to see if they have an online search engine.

########################################

Once you have a choice of motherboards....such as gigas....you might need to contact them to confirm there will be no issues.
Also let them know what type of RAM you have as not all ram work as I sure you know

It is income tax time in the US so maybe I'll just buy a new Laptop that will support 4gb or 8gb of memory and a intel but not sure which one to get.

laptops are price gougers best value and upgrade options are to go tower IMHO.

by design laptops cram everything into small space which is always a problem with heat and heat decays performance quicker than you can say I luv aussie beach babes.
