[Solved] Has anyone used Youtube Downloader

I try to use Youtube Downloader. I copy the link that I wanted when I started the download there some error message at the bottom of the page. What my question is did I have to setup it up first? If so what do I need to do? I'm using 3.1 Mate 64bit.

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

If it's youtub-dl that you're talking about, you will need python for starters. 8)

The youtube downloader is a GUI it is located in the internet area. I can click on it and it runs but it won't download the video. I copy the link and paste it in youtube downloader then I push the button to start the download and it never start the download.

There are gui on the internet but in particular you may like a web browser youtube to mp3 converter?

Find the yt you like and click the share button to get the direct url eg
https://youtu.be/<some-string>

go to converter site

http://www.flvto.biz/

paste url into box and click on convert.

wait a while

click on download....ignore any ad crap

and you have a mp3

hi, grab the slackbuild and change with a text editor the package version and after build the package, you have the source code, do not convert it to xzm,you need to build it first..

Up to yesterday my laptop ran 32bit version then I made a 64bit for that server. Then I put the wrong USB stick in my laptop which was the 64bit version and it bootup so now I been using the 64bit version. I just download the 64bit txz and I will convert it. Thanks anyway.

I try what you wrote here is the output. This is the file I use. youtube-dl-2015.12.18-x86_64-1_slack.txz but I convert to xzm.

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/home/guest/Downloads# sudo youtube-dl -U
It looks like you installed youtube-dl with a package manager, pip, setup.py or a tarball. Please use that to update.
root@porteus:/home/guest/Downloads#
What else do i need to do?

I have heard of this famous youtube downloader, but have never used it :(
but I have seen/used the following web based one:

http://youtubeinmp4.com/

For a script one that I have used and also works, but is not youtube downloader is the following one:

https://calomel.org/youtube_wget.html

But as Bogomips has stated the one that you want to use has python as its dep, see this
We also prefer a simpler scripted solution which does not rely on too many dependencies or proprietary code. For example, youtube-dl requires Python libraries and others require Javascript, Greesemonkey or even PHP to work in Firefox. Simple is better to audit and modify as needed.

Or simply place "ss" before the youtube address. This will redirect you to download the video in whatever format you choose.

Credits to whoever it was that told me.
