I think we can "to take" some ideas from distro AgiliaLinux LiveDVD for Porteus.
I tested AgiliaLinux-8.0beta2-Live-KDE-x86 in VMware Workstation for a small presentation - look at this video

I like the boot with a lof of services with the smallest time.
