To USB or not to USB?

This question is beginning to really vex me. USB 64 GB stick at really affordable price. But then it's getting near that point where for about three times that amount there will soon be possibility of 1TB external drive. And the SSDs are about three times the 1TB drives on offer now. Seems sensible to just wait for the drives, especially as one is always misplacing the sticks. Be interested to know if anyone has any thoughts on the matter.

..1 TB...lol
I can't even fill up a 250 GB hard drive.

I do not wait (anymore),I buy one when I need one...
and no matter what I bought, it was always cheaper the next week..

And you will always need 2 of them.(no way to backup 1 TB on DVDs or something)

I use 2 USB-HDD for storage / backup which I connect only to my own PCs.

If I have to carry around Files or Rescue systems, I prefer CD/DVD-RWs if possible.
(especially for use on Windows PCs),because they can not become infected by them. 8)

Hi Donald, thanks for input. At least someone around here is actively concerned with backup. You use 2 USBs, and that doesn't mean you back up the backup? As for me, being able to run AF with Porteus, means don't really have so much of important data to back up, would be bzipped 10 MB tops. Trouble is it's strewn all over the place, so rather than search for it to make the separate backups, its easier to back the whole disk up at one go, together with a lot of unimportant stuff. So the 1TB disk I had in mind would be the backup medium, no need to back it up :) And with 1TB at my disposal, could do grandfather, father, son for my 250 GB disk, and still have room to spare, if I were so minded.

What do you do with all that data? What kind of data do you work with? You always work with all that data? Are you a movie producer? 8)

Hi Bogomips
Well, I make compressed images of whole disks and / or single partitions
but i also backup Files / Folders uncompressed to avoid data loss if an
Image got corrupted.
One usb-hdd is for Images / updates / patches etc, and the other is storage.
(mp4 / mp3 / pdf / jpg / Tutorials / Manuals and so on)
Also old(er) programs / files / drivers, which aren't on the servers anymore.
I also have some important / nostalgic Files which I couldn't get back if
they were lost.
Therefore one backup isn't enough.
Call me "old school", but better safe than sorry.

Just seen a 3 TB monster at an affordable price, or the price of 6 64 GB usbs at affordable price. This means for the price of 784 GB one could get a 3 TB monster. Methinks at this rate Porteus could start a paid recovery consultancy, bearing in mind the experience that brokenman will gain from recovering his windoze 10.

@ Bogomips
yup..nice price..
Do you have enough Files to fill up such a "monster"?..and if yes,
how would you feel if your 3 TB Data collection gets overboard by accident
or hardware failure?.. ..the only solution (IMHO) is to buy 2.. :D
