Being abroad and having just a usb key and a macbook air, I thought I should find some way to boot that box with porteus installed on a usb key. Here is what I found:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-boo ... -your-mac/
1) you need to format your usb key in fat32 with the disk utility:
- mackintosh hd icon (at left)
- applications disk utility (utilitaire de disque)
- select usb stick
- select partition scheme (one partition)
- select msdos fat file system
- select apply
2) download your linux iso, here porteus iso:
- current version
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/
- testing version 3.1
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/testing/
3) install porteus with mac-linux usb loader:
http://sevenbits.github.io/Mac-Linux-USB-Loader/
- start the mac linux usb loader
- select the porteus iso in the folder where it was downloaded
- wait for the installation of the porteus usb (you can change the iso on the usb later if you want)
4) reboot the mac
