Transmission brings Porteus to a stop

Hi!

I noticed, when I download movies using Transmission, after a short while everything gets very slow and comes to an halt, it is even impossible to reboot - have to switch off the computer. Now, I wonder - although there should be enough memory, might there be a problem with big files and Transmission using up memory in RAM, or could it be the result of exploit-attacks from the net trying to disturb the download? I am using 1GB ram a swap file and I have never seen swap actually being used, so I doubt it is the ram.

If it is caused by exploits, is there a way to stop this?

Any ideas?

rather not exploits :)
try to save the files directly on the real filesystem (on the hd) and not the live one. also, make sure that transmission is not using any kind of cache in the live fs.

Yes as fanthom says, the problem is coming from space being filled up in the live file system. From console issue: df -H and look for aufs size.

A safer way to shutdown instead of a cold shutdown is the Magic Sysreq key.

Ctrl + Alt + SysReq (or insert) and then one by one press R E I S U B
The B means reboot, substitute it for an O for a shutdown.
