Unrecognized logical partitions by media:/, driving me nuts!

Hi guys,
First the site looks great, much better than slax.org's forum.
I seem to be having very similar issues as the OP in this post.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=99997
I have a external USB hard drive with 3 partitions, only 2 of which are picked up in media:// places .
From what i have read HAL might have something to do with the issue. However the last thing i want to do is revert to a different kernel or start changing major system files.
Within fstab is comments for this partition.
"fdisk -l /dev/sdc*" shows the following
So it looks like (from what i can tell) , i have one primary partition and one logical volume with 2 partitions.
This is just a guess. The partition is accessible fine when doing "mkdir /mnt/sdc5" "mount /dev/sdc5 /mnt/sdc5"
This issue has been lingering for some time.
All thoughts are helpful.
