packages for photographies manipulation or printing

With some interest in photographies manipulation and printing, I have a good camera with from which I do not get the full potential, fi5ban on mchat trigerred my decision to resolve the topic:
I am getting my 8 year old to use Porteus and he needs to download and print off some pictures for his 2nd grade presentation so what should he use?
I decided to dig the subject and try to find a simple solution for the 8 year old. Is there a simple answer?
1.0 Available programs on porteus (thru usm package manager):
1.1 Photoprint (just download and convert into module):
64bit:

Add library thru usm:
Some info on photoprint. It is easy to use. Just set the number per page photographs that you want and drop the photos from any folder on that page.

1.2 fotoxx (once built from source works on porteus, it will ask for additional packages ufraw and Image-ExifTool-9.45). It could be built from usm command line mode:

I recently started using Fotoxx for most of my processing. I also use gimp,photivo,rawtherappee and others as plugins from it. Fotoxx will do 99% of what is generally needed anyway but I often use ufraw 1st. Argyll offers very comprehensive colour calibration.

1.3 Gimp is available for porteus, but at first glance it looks complicated. I have been doing a few simple things on and off with gimp. Maybe what is needed here are only good tutorials for the specific use of photograph manipulation and printing. They might not be as simple as expected, but here is what I found yet:

There is a gui for screens but printers need doing long hand. I used the gui to set the icc file system wide for sRGB but also had to manually load it into Photivo as it uses it's own.

Photivo allows among others to apply a lot of filters to your images and perform various corrections including noise reduction, contrast enhancement, saturation, colors, textures and light. You can also change the orientation of your images, import or export images from other apps such as Gimp and treat or convert pictures 8/16 bits.

Under stifiling's porteus-arch hybrid, it seems that all of the linux packages for manipulation photos work out of the box once installed.

I recently started using Fotoxx for most of my processing. I also use gimp,photivo,rawtherappee and others as plugins from it. Fotoxx will do 99% of what is generally needed anyway but I often use ufraw 1st. Argyll offers very comprehensive colour calibration. There is a gui for screens but printers need doing long hand. I used the gui to set the icc file system wide for sRGB but also had to manually load it into Photivo as it uses it's own.

Comments on the use of these programs would be also much valuable. If you have some good tutorials that simplify the use of these software, you are really welcome.
