libreoffice: loosing documents repeatedly

Post#1 by francois » 10 May 2014, 19:27

The problem is the following. Saving different version of a document with libreoffice writer will save and keep the document. I have been working on that document for hours.

However, as soon, as I get out of the libreoffice writer, and come back in (without closing the computer), libreoffice writer will ask me for the recuperation of the document. And back to square one. All of the modifications that I have made to the document are lost. I just feel that my pants have been ripped off, the boxers too, and maybe some part of their content. Oh, it hurts.

The document was saved on a usb key. which has a lot of space. My porteus install is on hdd. I regret so much openoffice at the moment!

I have tried to find some .bak file of my document in the /root/.config/libreoffice/4/user/backup/ according to some link found on the net. The folder is empty.

Any comments at this point would be appreciated

There is no way libreoffice is going to save the document on my usb key.

I finally found a copy of the file with midnight commander. Searching the whole computer with the myfile* instead of myfile.odt (the name of the lost file), a few more locations came out, amongst which /root/.kde4/apps/RecentDocuments/myfile.odt.dektop.

This was it. However, it would still not save on the usb key.

I got back my old version of openoffice from porteus 1.2. It seemed to work well but only thru command line. I copy-paste the content of the file, and bingo was able to save the file to the usb key.

What is going on here?

Comments are still appreciated.

Glad you found your document.

Good debugging approach francois.

Yeah!! :Yahoo!:

Oh, you mean helpful comments?

If you give the file a different name will it save to the USB key?

Rarely does the hardware components are in fault, at least in my case. Now I suspect my Belkin device to be the problem. :Search:

This is a device that plugs into a usb port and that will transform that single usb port into a four usb ports device. I use to use often one of these four ports. It seems to be worn out. This would be the reason of my files not being saved, though they seemed saved.

Testing a second one.

Still investigating.
