A proper icon for pidgin

Post#1 by chosenbygrace » 09 Mar 2014, 17:43

No offense by the icon used to identify pidgin messenger is ugly, it looks like a gross version of the MSN Messenger icon, ugly coloration. Why no use the official purple bird, it's easier to recognize.

Please include which desktop you are using in your profile so we know what you are talking about more accurately.

Desktop is relevant since each desktop carries it's own icon theme. In mate for example, the pidgin icon would show from the faenza icon theme, and it is nice :crazy:. In any case do we seriously need a thread dedicated to the pidgin icon? Sheeesh.

@chosenbygrace:
It seems that will have customize you porteus install and put the pidgin icon version of your choice. This could be done.

@phhpro

This is on mate desktop.

Code: Select all

/usr/share/applications/pidgin.desktop
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/pidgin.svg
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/matefaenza/apps/16/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/matefaenza/apps/22/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/matefaenza/apps/24/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/matefaenza/apps/32/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/matefaenza/apps/48/pidgin.png
/usr/share/icons/matefaenza/apps/64/pidgin.png
While the icon exists in the hicolor path, the application icon from the theme takes precedence. The icon in the menu is the one from the matefaenza theme and it is rather nice. Therefore the desktop being used is relevant. If the OP finds a nice icon and places it in the hicolor path he will never see it. If the OP is using LXDE he will see a different icon than what I am seeing in MATE/KDE. This is now my second 'most loved yet hated' thread. The first is the one about the silly jumping cow screensaver.

cow thing is hilarious :)
strangely our forum search engine does not return anything for 'cow' so please search google for 'porteus forum cow' if want to find it.
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

Not to stir the pot, but I think the jumping cow screensaver absolutely rocks.
