removing grub and linux installation keep win7

I have installed grub and partitioned the disk on this brand new ultraslim laptop Acer 3820TG 3022.. Grub was installed with falcony's grubinstall program wich I find so useful. I was not sure that I would keep that laptop. Here in Montreal we could try the box for a few weeks and return it to the store if not satisfied. The laptop for an ultraslim is too heavy for me. Trying to put the computer in its original state with only win7 so to return it to the store, I have tried the following to remove grub without result:

Using Linux, citation from link:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-how- ... tall-grub/

Just remove MBR, without the partition table (see comment below):
# dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sdX bs=446 count=1

This did not worked. But maybe I missed something.

2) I wanted to try from windows 7:
http://www.blogsdna.com/2168/windows-7- ... ileges.htm

However, I am caught in some kind of loop.

The window 7 installation that I have is an installation on three partitions: hda1, hda2 and hda3. Hda1 seems to be for emergencies and permits to reinstall the system anew. Hda2 will boot the intalled win7os and hda3 will have the data on it. As porteus was installed without doing the rescue disk, I had to reinstall factory settings with booting from hda1, the rescue partition. Then I boot twice from hda2. The second boot from hda2 is driving me into some medium term installation of win7 lasting about 10 minutes. Then the screen goes blank. From there hdd seems to be inactive.

If from there i do a mechanical termination of the machine, it will not be able to reboot. There is only a flashing dash.

Any win7 geek on the forum to help me sort it out?

Hi francois
Press <Alt> + <F10> during POST to boot the system to start Acer eRecovery.
(hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously)

I moved this topic to 'General Chat', as this is not related to the installation of Porteus.

Good luck, francois!

@francois,

You do not need to use Acer Reovery - if you do you will get fresh installation

In such case of error fix is simpler - download the same version of Windows 7 iinstallation DVD as you have

Then burn it, then boot up - start ferst step of installation

Installation prorgam whould ask you to make fresh install

On this screen check box "Repair exisiting WIndows installation" and pres Enter

That's all

Your replies where quite appreciated. Finally, I have put a hand on the windows 7 recovery disks. They would not recover the situation until I erased the partition table with the use of gparted to be able to reinstall completely the os.
