I'll just add a quick note in support of Remix as a name -- that would also show respect for the Slax from which it came. We owe a debt to Tomas' work.

i'm sorry but once in the past i have mentioned on slax forum that 'remix was born there and will die there'. i would like to stick to this.

It died there. It was beaten to death with a stick! I still prefer UfoX but this is a democratic community. I ill prepare to make a logo now.

So, which is it? Sorry for being late but i was busy fighting with a machine, no need to say the machine lost!

'Proteus' sounds nice but is too common - google gives 4,780,000 hits.
i think we can go with 'Porteus' - only 184,000
Porteus is a merge of 2 words 'portablility' and 'Proteus' (Greeks god of the sea, capable of changing his form at will - lets say that it's a synonym of 'flexibility').
So we have portable(small) and flexible(modular) in one name
Only 'fast' is missing, but it's still very good.

Since it sounds like the matter hasn't been settled yet, i like the start in 'Proteus':

"Prot" as in "proto" (the begining of something)...
