[Solved] This is a dumb question

Post#1 by Jack » 18 Sep 2013, 01:34

I can't find it but what country is Porteus from? How many member works on Porteus? Is there of the member list who works on Porteus? So I can ask a question about something if need too.

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

I can't find it but what country is Porteus from?
Porteus is created by a team of people coming from different countries so there is no possibility to pick up one
How many member works on Porteus?
4 team members and bunch of active people from the community
Is there of the member list who works on Porteus?
core team is listed here:
http://www.porteus.org/contact-us

community is here:
http://forum.porteus.org/memberlist.php

@donald

It has nothing to do with privoxy...
I used to have access to that information, but at once they closed it to me. That can be done selectively at the server level.

That action coincided with my recommendation to my "Applied Informatics for Engineering" sudents at UNPHU to become members of the community, then only so they would have continuous support after the semester was over.

But the Porteus-Upstream complained that there was an invasion from the Dominican Republic, and since then I stopped recommending my students to do so (in my lessons I have about 120 students per academic year).

For teaching, I have been using KDE4 from the very beginning, as there was still no official 32-bits edition of Porteus (I put it myself together, thanks to fanthom!) ; I had to offer my students an OS far superior to that, what they are used to!

At that time, this forum opened a poll, asking what OS do you prefer. My student teams would unbalance the results in favor of KDE4 and that would have been unfair. So I stopped asking my students to become members of the Porteus community.

Someone even suggested I was giving extra points to the voters in favor of KDE4 (maybe he would have done so, not me!)

That is the story, dear friend!! :roll:

Sorry Wread I wasn't aware of this. I would have had no problem with the Dominican Republic. Now if the French invaded it would have been a different story!! :P

When it comes to members, I say the more, the merrier, especially if they contribute as you guys do!

@wread
Thanks for the explanation.
I took a look at this List only once or twice, and I never thought
that it could be restricted to have a look at this list (for members).

Jack it shouldn't matter if you are running Porteus as guest or root. Can you see the member list now? I changed some permissions. You must be logged into the forum to see the member list.

It works now. How about an alphabetically ordered list. :)

There is an alphabet at the top left, so you can scan the names alphabetically as you wish.....
