Remenber the ads in those pages are based on your previous searches, I don't get the lap-dancing add nowhere on the page, they all pertain to my interests, I have never searched for lap-dance and beer places.

Nice abstract, and in fact positive review of porteus 2.1 compared to other small distributions. At the same time announcement of porteus 3.0. The link was found by dustbunnies, see:
http://www.dujingshan.tk/blog/porteusah ... nvironment

As porteus 3.0 came out yesterday, there is already positive stock value increase on the distrowatch index. We are climbing ranking 63rd as best linux distribution based on the last month. :)

The positive stock value increase on the distrowatch index is still moving up, you better buy some shares now:

Only a few days after 3.0 version delivery the ranking is 44th best linux distribution based on the last month. This means that there is a great affluence on the in the recent days. :D

Better than that. Looking at the last week ranking, we are as of today 11th best ranking distribution:
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=porteus

Its time to make a provision of newcomers, and hope that within these we will have a few fanatics, like this did happen with the 2.1 version. We also need some bright reviews to get a little more exposure. :friends:

To filter out press releases and other noise, I've used this google search query (along with filter date range: past month):
-prepackaged -news -candidate -facts -overjoyed -standalone porteus linux -site:porteus.org -site:distrowatch.com -site:softpedia.com

The "over a pint" podcast from http://linuxluddites.com covered reviewed Porteus in Jan 2014:

or
http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.ogg ... tes007.ogg
takeaway:
They applauded the online builder, but were put off by package management // unmet dependencies issues

I put the tag 'overjoyed' in the release for exactly this purpose dustbunnies. :)

We have a real asset in the online builder. Many reviews have praised it. Our backend server guru (Hamza) is very quiet in the shadows but does a great job. At first I thought the PPM was a great asset and it worked well in areas, but it was too big and when it comes to package management people ultimately want something that does the job right, even ifit doesn't have all the bells and whistles. I am hoping the new PPM/USM fills that gap. It isn't as flashy as it's predecessor but so far has served well. It should be known (as fanthom discovered) that having 100% success with resolving dependencies in slackware is a far reach until the day when everybody (packagers) follows a standard. Until that time, this has freed up some time maintaining a porteus repository and allowed devs to turn their attention elsewhere.

I believe the Kiosk will bring much attention to Porteus and the next little surprise we have isn't too far around the corner. I think it will also fill a niche nicely.

A rather flattering critique of porteus amongst other linux distributions by Peter Heinrich Strauss, citation from:
http://articles.peter-heinrich-claus.eu ... ble-linux/
In brief: Porteus Portable Linux is a lightweight Linux distribution based on the classic Slackware. The philosophy behind Porteus Portable Linux is to keep things as small as possible by leaving out as much as possible, and thus, creating a streamlined, and agile system, fit to run on anything as weak as a historic 486 machine. This summary applies to the 64 bit editions of Porteus Portable Linux v2.1 and v3.0 using the LXDE desktop environment.

Critiques of other linux distributions were not as flattering.

^ & ^^

Good to know... There are some issues / mistakes in the en.wikipedia article. Who else, aside from me is willing to work on the wikip. article? [PM me if you want to share chores on that with me!
Putting in new reviews is needed, the only ones up there is for a way outdaded version.

Anyhow, no reviews at all at our free awesome online ISO configurator? I want to put some info on that on wikipedia as well...

Thanks. 8)
