We simply missed these two very positive reviews. Some improvement suggestions are provided (to be included in v 2.1?) :good:

Positives and negatives comments, I would say worth to be read. :)

IMHO I think that Porteus is not aSlax fork anymore, Slax came alive again after somebody pumped money to get a new version, Tomas blog is dead for whai I can see, no posts since July 30. With the addition of the printer module Porteus can be called a complete Distro.

However you are moving to fast for me, having a new desktop every few weeks confuses and people new to Porteus have no idea what all those desktops are, also you have a wonderfull tool to update the system, why not make updates to the modules that don't break the system like having a non destructing update that can be undone if it doesn't work.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for the feedback. The period between stable releases is quite long. For example the next stable release won't be out until next year. I don't think I fully understand what you mean by having a new desktop every couple of weeks. Please explain a little more if you have time.

Mer thinks we should enhance the wikipedia article on Porteus.

I found a nice review for quoting in the article. It is about 2.0, and says "2.1 RC2 is under development"
http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/78550.html
Porteus Linux is an almost perfect portable distro that gives you a choice of the KDE4, Razor-qt, XFCE or LXDE desktops in both 32- and 64-bit versions.

[...]

Its persistent memory feature, unlike regular live distro sessions, lets you carry a complete Linux desktop with all of your files and special application settings in your pocket to run on any computer.

Porteus boots from a USB drive or other bootable external media in as little as 15 seconds. That booting time can take longer if you add an excessive number of software modules.

[...]

One of the coolest features with Porteus is its KDE desktop option. I do not know of any other portable Linux distro that crams KDE onto a stick.

The theory with designing a portable Linux distro is to make it lightweight enough to fit on bootable external storage devices with more limited storage capacity than a DVD. Typically, portable Linux distros run XFCE or LXDE-style environments.

I've gotten a lot of productivity value out of Puppy Linux and Knoppix Linux As good as these two portable distros are, Porteus is more flexible.

[...]

orteus is packed with lots of features and an expansive software set. The longer I drove it around, though, the more quirks I needed to figure out. The user forums and ample online documentation smoothed my transition.

[...]

The Porteus Package Manager is a heavy duty installer that serves as a cross-distro package converter. It has modules for accessing repositories for its own apps along with Slackware, SlackBuild, Salix, Alien and Debian.

The PPM resolves dependencies from across the repositories. It creates a package module rather than doing a conventional installation.
But the above is way too long to put as review on a wikipedia page. And I need help to slim it down to the basics. Any volunteer in aiding me?

But this part is nonsense:
Porteus is such a fine-tuned Linux distro, it can easily replace whatever else you have installed. You can not install Porteus on a hard drive. However, you can do a frugal installation that lets you use a GRUB entry to boot the live environment without needing the DVD or USB bootable device.
Sure you can install Porteus as live xzm module based OS on the hard drive... Dunno where he got the idea from that you cannot do that...

And, in my book, what is totally missing is the new web configurator for custom ISÒ's.
That was what I wrote as comment on the review, but it is not jet posted and awaits editor's approval...
