???... My understanding of this thread's "context" is that it highlights the
acclaim and media exposure of this distro and it's increasing adoptation.

Therefore... the Porteus "community" (which includes everyone's efforts) should take a well deserved bow.

IMO... the community's "efforts" are in large part the result of a uncensored
inclusive forum which encourages and celebrates Postmodernism rather than Elitism .

As a "community" we should take care not to CONFUSE "dissent" and "free speech" with anti-social commentary.
From my point of view... this is one of the most important factors for continued success and growing popularity.

IMHO... it's a big tent and there's more than enough room for diverging points of interest.

The way I see it... it's just as important to retain project contributors as it is to aquire new ones (...perhaps more so).

Agressivity and uncivilised exchanges will not be tolerated by the moderators of this forum. Please reformulate your posts accordingly. This is a warning.

Please adopt a positive and constructive attitude and stay on topic, though this topic seems very wide at first glance.

I am opening a thread on philosophical considerations concerning porteus http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 264#p48264

Build Your Own Portable Linux Distro with Porteus Building a customized Linux distribution can be a daunting proposition – unless you use Porteus Wizard. This clever and simple service lets you create a custom Live CD distro that fits a USB stick and loads in RAM.
Sounds like a good quote for our wikipedia pages. Your thoughts?

English Wikipedia says "latest version: 3.2, 27 December 2016"

Should that read "3.2.2"? Or is "3.2.0" really from 27.12.2016, I thought it was some days earlier...

Porteus and techradar:
http://www.techradar.com/news/10-of-the ... ux-distros
6. Porteus
This Slackware-based distro is designed to be completely portable and run on removable media such as a USB stick or CD, but can just as easily be installed to a hard disk. The distro is incredibly fast as it's small enough to run entirely from system RAM.

The unique selling point of Porteus is that it exists in a compressed state (less than 300MB for the Cinammon and MATE editions) and creates the file system on-the-fly. Besides the preinstalled apps, all additional software for the distro comes in the form of modules, making the OS very small and compact.

Porteus is available for 32-bit and 64-bit machines. The distro provides users with the choice of KDE, MATE, Cinnamon and Xfce desktop environments when downloading the ISO image.

Unfortunately the option to build your own custom ISO has been removed since we previously looked at Porteus, but the pre-built images offer a decent selection of software and drivers, as well as an excellent selection of tutorials to help you get started.

Porteus desktop going up from 103 rank to 79 in just one day on distrowatch. And porteus kiosk going up too at the 114th rank. It seems that porteus 4.0 was expected by the masses.
:D

And annoucement of porteus rc4 by Jay Flood on distrowatch:

We have awoken a sleeping giant! :Yahoo!: Hope people do take it for a spin and report back what they like/dislike so ``this little distro that could'' even becomes better than what it is!
