[Slax-Remix] v09 i486/2.6.36.1/slackware-current

Post#1 by brokenman » 28 Dec 2010, 07:38

This is the current remix release that was released by Fanthom.

Code: Select all

SHORT CHANGELOG
- kernel 2.6.36.1 i486 witch ck-patches for making GUI more responsive.
- userland bumped to slackware-current from 30th of November 2010 (gcc 4.5.1 and Gallium 3D for nouveau!)
- latest LXDE delivered by Ponce
- xorg-server-1.9.2
- my own implementation of Linux Live Script (please read /slax/cheatcodes.txt as some cheatcodes were added/changed/removed)
- kernel config: added hibernate and debugfs, removed devtmpfs, utf8 compiled as (M)
many other small changes:
- LXDE is now a separate module (easy to remove/replace by other desktop)
- devel package is included by default in ISO
- konqueror servicemenus are back-ported from 64bit version (convert_deb_sq4, convert_rpm_sq4, install/uninstall_tgz-txz, mount and umount sq4)
- slax2usb cab be run from any media (not only CD) - one condition: /boot and /slax must be present in /mnt/live/mnt/* dir
- updated jayfloods 'module tools' (bug in 'extract package' utility reported upstream)
- fixed /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 so dhcpd is run separately for each NIC
- changed some lxde icons to fit KDE
- added /root/.bash_profile which sets TERMINAL and BROWSER variables in /opt/slaxscripts - required by slax extra scripts
- added flashgot extension to firefox
- some linuxrc fixes (ntfs is not passing posixovl test anymore)
- busybox 1.17.3
- fixed slaxcc.desktop
- fixed some bugs in sns-tool and LST
- edited README file inside /slax/slaxsave.zip
- added info about booting from NTFS partition to LST and cheatcodes.txt
- /usr/lib/firefox is a real folder and not a symlink
- added keyboard setting for LXDE in LST
- chmod 777 -R /tmp/.* so xorg can be started by from normal user account and not only root
- moved all man's from /usr/share/man to /usr/man
- bumped lzm_utils to version 0.5
- added broadcom-sta driver
- added alt+shift lang switch for KDE
- disabled 'numlock on' in KDE
- added p7zip, rarlinux and ark-plugin, removed unrar
- updated flashplayer which has some interesting features now: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODg1Mg
- updated remix FAQ and Language-Selection-Tool
- all libs in initrd (including ntfs-3g) are updated
- linuxrc mounts tmpfs in /var/tmp when changes are saved on FAT/NTFS - be aware of that.
- updated rc.S and rc.M scripts (rc.S is now checking /etc/rc.modules for lading extra kernel modules, this file must be created by user - thanks to jayflood for reminding this)
- also: ldconfig is run by rc.S early in the boot process to fix loading of fglrx driver
- added /etc/modprobe.d/BLACKLIST-KMS.conf where nouveau and intel are blacklisted to to have fully working bootsplash during boot time (couldn't blacklist radeon as HD series needs firmware which must be loaded by udev)
- many other things which i cant remember - sorry :)

SLAX REMIX KNOWN BUGS:
- due to newest libpng-1.4.x package you need to link all qt-based applications against older libpng-1.2x during compilation:
rm /usr/lib/libpng.la
ln -s /usr/lib/libpng12.la /usr/lib/libpng.la

- after update of xorg-server to version 1.9.2, opensource 'radeon' driver needs KMS enabled by default, otherwise gives segfaults. all ati legacy card owners (before HD series) can't use 'nomodeset' cheatcode - be aware of that.
- nouveau driver doesn't work properly when placed in 002-xorg module that's why i have moved it to 003-lxde and 004-kde
- after last update i forgot to add '&& .' to /usr/bin/xdm and LXDE does not support locales. solution:
please save this:
#!/bin/bash
while [ 1 ]; do
su --login -c ". /root/.bash_profile && . /etc/profile.d/lang.sh && /usr/bin/startx -- vt7 > /dev/null 2>&1"
done

as /rootcopy/usr/bin/xdm
- Virtualbox needs full kernel sources during compilation

Will there be a link to previously generated information from the slax website? There is a lot valuable information in there.

I have a question, any users out there that need/require help with connecting to internet via dialup with a winModem?

If there are, please let me know to see how I can try to help. I have been dormant with regards to some modules, and no one has asked for new remix sq4 modules for some of the old modules that are in slax forum.
