Porteus-v09 64bit Edition 2.6.37 - alpha test: Passed!

Post#1 by fanthom » 06 Jan 2011, 07:15

Just compiled 2.6.37 kernel for upcoming Porteus-v09 'middle-January' kernel update (as scheduled in the roadmap). Same set of patches: aufs-2.1, squashfs4-lzma, con kolivas, bootsplash.

No problems so far :D

Stay tuned!

@fanthom

Will you email us(users & testers) if new testing iso is out?

Had not checked forum, & did not know about new name :( But thanks to jay(brokenman), he posted the new link to the website :), I would not have found out about porteus :(
Does the performance in the desktop is noticeable? or the new 2.6.38 kernel will have this only?

Thanks,

Tonio

I'll leave the link there for another few days and then just replace it with a redirect to here.

For everyone else, the new address is: http://forum.porteus.org

PS: I would also like to release an alpha but there just isn't enough done to release one yet. :sorry:
How do i become super user?

sorry but rather not, some people may be not happy with spamming their private mailboxes. I have done it once - when voting about new name took place, but it was extremely important poll and it was an exception.
I'm not planing to do it in the future - you just need to visit us from time to time :D
If you dont want to visit us - just have a look on the roadmap in 'Announcement' section and you should get approximate date for next release.

@brokenman
no worries - Porteus-v09 is just a new name + new kernel + some other small changes (bugfixes). It's mainly done for purpose of getting use to the new name (and paths as /slax/base will be replaced with /porteus/base, etc).

It's a FAKE release.
The real one will be Porteus-1.0 with bunch of new features :D

@ponce
what's wrong exactly?
looks ok for me.
(and why are you referring to version which is not announced yet? did you steal it from the server? :%) )

that is my card datas with the working kernel :D

the 2.6.37-ck1 is available here: gonna try to manually build alsa-driver-1.0.23 with that ;)

FYI: on lkml.org I read about some regression with intel graphic chips too.

@ponce
1) is your sound card ok with kernel compiled without ck1?
2) bad luck with intel drivers in recent kernel releases :(
hope that will be sorted out before 1.0...
