Porteus 5.0 - No Sound and Wi-Fi Networks Not Detected

Post#1 by Kulle » 20 Dec 2024, 15:26

My USB stick with Porteus 5.0 Xfce works very well on many old notebooks.

However, on the HP EliteBook 850 G6, there are two problems:
No sound, and Wi-Fi networks are not detected.

For testing purposes, I also tried PorteuX on the EliteBook.
And here, these problems did not occur;
sound was present and Wi-Fi networks were detected.

Could it be because PorteuX uses a newer kernel?

most likely the kernel, not necessarily 'newness', but the firmware present .. to test this, swap out kernel (000-kernel.xzm and vmlinuz) and try.

Hi ncmprhnsbl,
How do I get a new kernel and its corresponding vmlinuz?

I have looked at this:
Porteus Kernel Builder
It seems complicated?

Or can I simply use the newer kernel from the iso porteuX Xfce 4.16
thanks

Use this less complicated Kernel Builder link: Porteus Kernel Builder (Post by Blaze #101256) :happy62:

That could work. Same steps as using the file above. :)
