I've uploaded them in the LaTeX subforum of the Porteus eXchange Telegram group: https://t.me/PorteusX
Can I access that outside of Telegram?
https://t.me/PorteusX only displays this (with JavaSript enabled):
Image
and the link is not working:
tg://resolve?domain=PorteusX
The address wasn’t understood
Pale Moon doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (tg) isn't associated with any program.
You might need to install other software to open this address.
and the "Download" link in the top right corner is about downloading Telegram.
My old telegram-3.2.4-x86_64-1ponce.xzm is still working? (Found it in my 5.0rc3 folder!)

But how can I use Telegram anonymously?
Cheers!

Is that really a anonymous thingy then when I use the app with my phone - as in real life name, phone number?

And yet another question about Telegram

In order to log into my account in the Desktop version, I used my mobile telephone number and got an access code sent to my Telegram app on my phone.
Now Telegram sits in the XFCE desktop using quite some resources
on a machine with a mere 4 GB of RAM:
top -bn 1 and manual select of only the most CPU and RAM hogging programs:

Code: Select all

15.10.2023 18:29:58 ____________________________________________________________
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
28065 guest 20 0 28.6g 1.3g 48660 R 88.2 34.4 1675:44 palemoon
 2143 guest 20 0 3714208 7904 5368 S 11.8 0.2 645:21.91 pulseaudio
17355 guest 20 0 1928912 20348 8792 S 5.9 0.5 54:45.01 ffplay
 1961 root 20 0 934120 619868 26140 S 0.0 15.6 297:23.02 Xorg
 2731 guest 20 0 2436652 268012 72312 S 0.0 6.8 20:03.80 interlink
 4100 guest 20 0 1197468 132576 17120 S 0.0 3.3 6:31.16 nemo
18750 guest 20 0 1747480 273540 38316 S 0.0 6.9 1:11.21 Telegram
As you can see, its 3rd ranked when it comes to RAM.

Is there a way to locally save some kind of login token that enables me to log into the desktop version of Telegram without the need to access my mobile phone version of it each and every time want to use the Desktop version?
Because having it sit in the Porteus background is not really feasible for such an outdated and weak on RAM system like mine.
Cheers!

I had to download just once the Desktop client binary provided by Telegram and logged in once. Since then I never have to login into Telegram: I just start it from Start>Internet menu on my OpenBox. Also it's self-updating. I do press "restart Telegram" to apply the update when it offers as I don't want to delay that until next system session. Actually I add these into my changes-exit.conf.

Code: Select all

!/root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/tdata/emoji
!/root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/tdata/user_data/cache
!/root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/tdata/user_data/media_cache
!/root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/tupdates
so that to keep my changes folder small

I ran Telegram as user guest.

Code: Select all

root@rava:~# ls -o /root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/
/bin/ls: cannot access '/root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/': No such file or directory
root@rava:~# ls -o /home/guest/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/
total 16
-rw-r--r-- 1 guest 14522 2023-10-15 18:14 log.txt
drwxr-xr-x 7 guest 380 2023-10-15 18:17 tdata
root@rava:~#
and I had to kill my X session with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace because of tilix-1.9.5.x86_64.xzm freezing my XFCE session (details here : 80+ modules available (Post by Rava #96520) )
Now I can try if Telegram will indeed log me in as you said. (Not tried it since I had to re-start X via startx from the guest's Virtual Console)

Do you happen to know which files in /home/guest/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/tdata/ I need to save for Telegram to auto-login me?
Since I do not use any auto-saving changes mechanism and have to manually save all files I want my system to remember into my settings-modules.
Cheers!

I could login, but only via giving it my mobile number and receiving a credential code via the mobile version.
ABoe in post #5 rych told me he can log into his Telegram via the Desktop app, and he seems o run the desktop app as root (while I run it as guest) - he has files in /root/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/ while I have files in /home/guest/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/

Then I had to forcefully exit X via Ctrl+Alt+Backspace due to tilix-1.9.5.x86_64.xzm - detals on that here: 80+ modules available (Post by Rava #96520) - and have not tried the Telegram desktop client since (restarted X, and for now I saved the files from /home/guest/.local/share/TelegramDesktop/ ) but I try starting Telegram soon.

But first I have to check if the most recent chromium I got - 005-chromium-ungoogled-117.0.5938.149-x86_64-en-GB-1alien.xzm - is secure against vulnerabilities CVE-2023-4863 and CVE-2023-5217 - which, sadly, is harder than I imagined it to be because later I have an online meeting and need chromium because such stuff not works with Palemoon. :coffee: :wall:

Or I am just a dumdum not knowing where to look for the release info on a very recent version.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=chromium+chan ... oon&ia=web
https://www.chromium.org/Home/ ← not helpful or I do not get where to look
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/is ... 2023&can=2 ← not helpful or I do not get where to look

Even tried accessing https://www.gitclear.com/ to ask about the vulnerabilities CVE-2023-4863 and CVE-2023-5217 via my github access but seems I have to give gitclear.com my last name and Job title
Off Topic
Added in 11 minutes 52 seconds:
Now I choose a job title and https://www.gitclear.com/open_repos tells me the most recent chromium being 120.0.6068.1 while

Code: Select all

update-browser -c
tells me the newest version being 118.0.5993.70.
Oh well, at least 118.0.5993.70 is newer than my 6th of Oct. 005-chromium-ungoogled-117.0.5938.149-x86_64-en-GB-1alien.xzm

Added in 19 minutes 44 seconds:
At least that's done:

Code: Select all

root@rava:/Porteus_modules# /bin/ls -o --time-style=long-iso --quoting-style=shell 005-chromium-ungoogled-118.0.5993.70-x86_64-en-GB-1alien.xzm | cut -c 20-$(expr 19 + $(tput cols))
10735360 2023-10-16 16:35 005-chromium-ungoogled-118.0.5993.70-x86_64-en-GB-1alien.xzm
And the above ls monstrosity is usually a function

Code: Select all

function lc ()
{
    /bin/ls -o --time-style=long-iso --quoting-style=shell "$@" | cut -c 20-$(expr 19 + $(tput cols))
}
Still in :coffee:  :coffee:  :coffee:  mode.
Cheers!

I saved everything but the stuff rych excluded, and seems Telegram desktop client connects me without issue.
It gives some error messages when I start it via terminal

Code: Select all

guest@rava:~$ Telegram
[ALSOFT] (EE) Failed to set real-time priority for thread: Operation not permitted (1)
error: : cannot open
error: : cannot open
error: : cannot open
[ogg @ 0x7f34be646000] 735 bytes of comment header remain
Invalid return value 0 for stream protocol
Invalid return value 0 for stream protocol
[ALSOFT] (EE) Failed to set real-time priority for thread: Operation not permitted (1)
But it works, that is what matters; I even created my first Messenger Group ever.

But this not helps with how to get anonymously files that are shared via Telegram.

I not only created my very first group in any messenger ever, but also took the time to look around in its settings to find what I needed all along when using the Telegram Linux Desktop Client: Boosting up the interface size to 150%:
Image
This is how it looks now on my FullHD display. (The screenshot is reduced from 1920x1080 to a mere 800x450) - 200% is sadly too large, and there is o option for 175% (maybe in a newer version, my telegram-3.2.4-x86_64-1ponce.xzm is from 2021. Does it have a vulnerability towards CVE-2023-4863 & CVE-2023-5217 -quite likely. =@

Added in 1 day 5 hours 36 minutes 22 seconds:
Then, of course, not everything is sunny.
I created a new module incorporating the newest Linux binary as provided by Telegram. But that fails.
I sent the Support team this message:
My System: Linux x86-64

When starting the most recent version 4.10.3, it gives these errors
QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 2
QWidget::render: Cannot render with an inactive painter

and the program froze, stating "Loading..." in the left area (where my groups and friends would be displayed), but never loads anything. I can provide a screenshot if that would help.

And my local files are corrupted. I restored the local settings files and started the older version 3.2.4; it gives these errors:

[ALSOFT] (EE) Failed to set real-time priority for thread: Operation not permitted (1)
error: : cannot open
error: : cannot open
error: : cannot open
QCoreApplication::postEvent: Unexpected null receiver

but it runs okay.
This is the screenshot I mentioned above:

The Telegram help group replied yesterday 12:53 PM with this:
Please wait. Volunteers of the Telegram Support Force will try to answer your question as soon as possible.
FYI, currently it is the next day, 04:10 and no reply whatsoever. :( Maybe the volunteers of the "Telegram Support Force" are not forcefully trained / knowledgeable enough when it comes to such technical, well, technicalities. :)
Cheers!

hi, from arch wiki: but software that needed i don't know if slackware have it

Code: Select all

Failed to set real-time priority for thread: Operation not permitted
If you get the following error

Code: Select all

Install realtime-privileges, add yourself to the realtime group and reboot. See Realtime process management#Configuring PAM for details.

The error of the old version is of no concern for now, it may be that that Telegram reacts with some seconds of delay, but this is for now no issue. When I would use voice chat (like a conference call) then it might be important. So thanks for the heads up.

For now I would like to know how to debug the 4.10.3 version.
Without successful start, and corrupting the local settings: that's a bit much.
Cheers!
