Which pdf reader do you use?
Please provide the name of your prefferred pdf reader and how you install it on your porteus 5.0 installation? Your comments on the different pdf readers that you have used are welcome.
Pertinent information on pdf softwares:
There are four different kind of pdf software,, they are defined in this link:
https://www.kofax.com/learn/blog/compar ... difference
-pdf viewer
-pdf creator
-pdf converter
-pdf editor
A table from wikipedia, provides the information related to the type of software: viewer, creator, converter and editor:

Personnally I used to use foxit pdf reader. It was quite satisfying under porteus 4.0. But since then it often freezes.
Here is the installation procedure for ubuntu, it works for porteus:
https://linux.how2shout.com/how-to-inst ... -04-linux/
Dowload link:
https://www.foxit.com/fr/downloads/#Foxit-Reader/
Critique:
The program will freeze frequently. The reason is that they have stopped the linux version development.
https://kb.foxit.com/hc/en-us/community ... -even-beta
Maybe an other way is going with the window edition thru wine.
Looking at what is available for porteus thru gslapt, there is at least two options:
pdfstudio
https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio/
It is free for less then 10 users installation.
master pdf editor
https://code-industry.net/masterpdfeditor/
module by gomway
New Working Modules and Custom Porteus ISOs
It is not free
https://kbpdfstudio.qoppa.com/is-master ... ee-or-not/
I will look at these and report.

save a page as a Pdf (Print > save a page as a Pdf)
So can Palemoon.
Be aware what's the standard location for the saved PDF:
~/mozilla.pdf It tells you so prior saving (and you can choose another location and a different name) but when you not look at that info might be you look for the pdf in e.g. /tmp/

There seems to be a difference between pdf viewer, reader and editor:
https://www.kofax.com/learn/blog/compar ... difference
PDF4QT would be a pdf editor. Personnally, I would like a pdf editor :
A PDF editor lets you encrypt documents, add form fields, change and modify text, edit images, and much more.
Description for PDF4QT
https://jakubmelka.github.io/
Install PDF4QT
Code: Select all
root@porteus:/home/guest# git clone https://github.com/JakubMelka/PDF4QT.git
I am trying it now.
Note:
pdf studio will provide edition only with the pro version which seems to be a paying edition.

What's the difference between a pdf viewer and reader? Both can only display a pdf, non?
While an editor can, you know, edit.

I presume by the QT part of its name, it requires QT (which is not part of a minimal XFCE environment). Am I correct on that?
When I use my epub reader (an outdated version, but I prefer it due to its slim needs on dependencies) I have to load 1.79 MB for the module and 4.13 MB for its QT dependencies (stripped down to the bare minimum: qt-4.8.4STRIPPED+liblinebreak-2.1) - but I presume that dependency module would hardly be enough for PDF4QT-1.3.5.deb
https://github.com/JakubMelka/PDF4QT#readme only mentions "qt" but no specifics.

Hi,
For years the best pdf viewer for me is qpdfview.
The current version 0.5.0 is a tabbed pdf document viewer.
It requires Qt and has printing support for cups, which some other viewers don't have, but is important for me.

Printing support is important for me too!

Foxit reader was very satisfying in terms of the features it offered. I functioned well under porteus 4.x. Alas, the linux version is no longer maintained.
