Patrick Volkerding is the BDFL of the Slackware Linux distribution.
As this answer is just a simple google away (as you did) may I ask what prompted your question?
:D

francois, are you trolling us?
To quote from the very same wikipedia article initial sentences:
Patrick Volkerding (born October 20, 1966) is the founder and maintainer of the Slackware Linux distribution . Volkerding is Slackware's " Benevolent Dictator for Life " (BDFL), and is also known informally as "The Man".
Most of use know of him (Slackware and all that) but I presume almost no one will know him personally.

This thread was just a way to underline the great work of Patrick Volkerding, maintainer of slackware over which porteus is built. and of the making of slackware. Volkerding was the first to build a desktop

Slackware came out in 1992. Then Opensuse came out the same year, but built on Slackware. It was only in 1996 that it became an independent version. In 1993. Debian came out, providing a stable distribution in 1996.

We used to talk quite much about Tomas the maintainer of slax who built Slax over slackware in 2003. I thought that Patrick Volkerding deserved a mention.
Let's also note that porteus came out of slax-remix, which began in 2010 with a bunch of enthusiasts. The initiator was fanthom which was joined by brokenman (Jay Flood) and provided a first version of porteus in 2012.

That's what you meant by this thread.

I fully agree, while Tomas from Slax is important when it comes to the live system we use, Slackware is still the OS base, so Patrick is at least as important to all that is Porteus as is Tomas, fanthom and Jay Flood. :)
