WiFi quit working

I have a question I haven't update since the last time there was a update. It been about 2 weeks ago my internet quit working. When I unplug the USB that has Porteus mate on then restart my Laptop with Windows the WiFi started working again. I even had a USB WiFi and retry USB Porteus Mate and it had the same problem. So that why I'm asking to try and get it fixed.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Hi Jack. :)

When in Windows what is the name of the network does it show that are you connected to? When you boot Porteus what network name does it show you are connected too? Do the names match? Does the Windows network name show in the Porteus Wireless list? Does it show in the Porteus Network connections list?

What networks do you see in Porteus Network Settings? If none you may have lost your wifi driver.

Any local Wi-Fi names listed other than the Spectrum one? Is the Wi-Fi button set to the right?

If that's from Porteus your wifi driver is working. When you click on the SpectrumSetup-20 or -5D name what do you see?

Will that means your Porteus wifi system is working. If the Spectrum E2 network is not showing maybe you somehow blocked it in a network setting.

Is that a easy fixed or if I do a new install fix it?

Right now I have a Dell latitude E6410 with 4gb of ram and i5 520M cpu I'm getting ready to upgrade it to 8gb of ram and i7 640M cpu is the max I can do. With Porteus Mate it ran great but with my problem I had to fall back to Windows 7 pro that why I'm doing the upgrade to the Dell Latitude E6410 it a little slow now.

When I do the upgrade I might be able even do a Windows 10 pro upgrade.

I would think an easy fix. Finding it may take some time. :D

I have a Dell Inspiron 13 with 4GB and Windows 10 and a desktop that I built yrs ago with Windows 7. Both functional. :)

Sounds reasonable and useful.

Personally I find that doubtful, mostly based on drivers, not RAM or speed. And don't waste time trying Windows 8, a bad version IMHO.

I been with Porteus since Aug 2013 and grew liking it and hate to lose it over a Network problem and wish I new how to fix it. I was even going to try Porteus-5.0 or even Porteus-4.0 to see if that would work. I hope I can remember how to do it.

I did do a download of all the Dell Latitude E6410 Windows 7 pro driver they had on there site plus the Bios upgrade on my Latitude bios is A07 the upgrade is A17 I will do. I just hope my Windows 7 pro keeps working.

What version are you running?

As for your Windows 7 system that is working I wouldn't tinker with it. An upgrade might cause problems and Microsoft doesn't support Windows 7 any more.

In that Porteus sees other SpectrumSetup networks your hardware and software is working, what's not working is the -E2 connection. Do you pay for SpectrumSetup-E2? Do you have to register your name & etc with Spectrum to use it? I use Spectrum internet but my service's name is not SpectrumSetup.

In my Portues taskbar I have an icon named Network Connection. When I click on it I see a window with a label at the top named Wireless and a button to the right indicating on. I then see a list of connections available and at the bottom I see 2 labels, one named Network Settings and one named Network Connections. When I click on Network Settings I see about a dozen names, most relating to my wifi router and a couple of SpectrumSetup names!!

With the nmtui command I don't see the Network Setting window I see. And this is not helpful.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ nmtui --help
Usage:
  nmtui [OPTION…]

Help Options:
  -h, --help Show help options

guest@porteus:~$
:(

I'll have to do some checking an get back to you.
