Network Manager speedup and stability

Post#1 by nanZor » 07 May 2019, 09:06

This archival info from 6 years ago is so good, that instead of replying to it, thought it might be better form to reintroduce it, and add some of my experience on top of it:

[HOWTO] Connect faster while using NetworkManager

While I'm in there editing connections, if I'm doing Wi-Fi and I *know* that the access point I'm connecting to is only capable of saying just 2.4g (and not 5g), I'll take it out of "automatic", and specifically set the band. OR, since the card in my computer is only capable of 2.4g, again, I'll set the specific band.

Does that help? I don't know. I just know that when giving an option to something that doesn't really have an option helps keep things from tangling. :)

And since I'm only using home networks with ipv4, instead of relying solely upon network manager to "ignore" ipv6, I also use a cheatcode at the boot splash, or in my porteus.cfg file:

ipv6.disable=1
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth
