^ Agreed.
If I find a booted system that the user has left I would sign them off so noone could hack or delete their files.

hi kulle, if you want your system in german language you have to install:/mnt/sdb1/porteux/modules/glibc-i18n-2.38-x86_64-3.xzm this is for porteux current you can search for the 15 version via slakfinder and you have to tweak the two language files in /etc/profile.d from en to de
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh

Hi beny,
when the language change is so easy,
then why are there in Porteus four language files ?
de-core_locales.xzm
de-devel_locales.xzm
de-xfce_locales.xzm
de_DE-locales.files.xzm
(Four files !!)
These four files wouldn't be necessary then ??
I believe the method you suggested is incomplete.

hi kulle, for the general system language you have to do like i have told you,for the software is a bit different you have to collect all the files named .mo and put into the /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES this is for the it language,i think that all the desktop environment of porteus or porteux do not have any language but english and your 4 packages are the files that you need for the de language.

Hi beny,
That's why my question was:
When (!) will such language packs also be available for PorteuX?
Or is that not planned in the future?
A distribution without language packs is not a full-fledged distribution.
Not everyone in the world understands English perfectly.

@Kulle, providing full support for multiple languages is a big work and at the moment I don't have time for that, sorry. It will happen eventually, but not for now.
But using PorteuX app store you can have browsers and LibreOffice with any language you want.

Just a technical question:
this glibc-i18n-2.38-x86_64-3.txz package: I looked into the Porteus 5.01 equivalent of glibc-i18n-2.33-x86_64-5.txz (for some reason I did not find via https://slackware.nl/slakfinder/ a version for glibc-i18n-2.35-x86_64):
in usr/lib64/locale/ the folders and files needed are all sorted by the languages. So it should be not that hard to write a script that extracts such package and only copies the files (and creates symlinks when they are done like so) that match a certain target language, no?
As with my example of glibc-i18n-2.33-x86_64-5.txz :
You get a file contents listing via https://slackware.nl/slakfinder/show.php?pkg=12702
And when you grep it for "German" as target language you searh for /de/ or for de_DE:
Let's say you saved the package contents from the above link in a local file called /tmp/glibc-i18n-2.33-x86_64-5.contents.txt
Then you should get a listing of all needed files via
Code: Select all
grep de_DE /tmp/glibc-i18n-2.33-x86_64-5.contents.txt
Code: Select all
grep /de/ /tmp/glibc-i18n-2.33-x86_64-5.contents.txt
(It is not that helpful when it come to symlinks; at least the listing via the above link only gives lines like so)
Code: Select all
usr/lib64/locale/de_DE.utf8/LC_PAPER link to
usr/lib64/locale/de_DE/LC_PAPER link to
usr/lib64/locale/de_DE@euro/LC_PAPER link to
link to what exactly?
Cheers!

hi Rava you can add only the glibc-i18n-2.33 to the system and you have to change
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh
from en to de_DE and reboot i have add the glibc 2.33 at first sight but i have removed and the language it is ok ,you have to collect the language file from the software that you use for to have the de language ready for application, maybe kulle can share the four de packages the he have to try if work in your system, are for the base and core system ok try if work for you.
and the location of the locales is /usr/share/locale/de
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh

The language modules I use are from here:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/Porteus-v5.0/language/
The de-xfce_locales.xzm module also works in Porteux (essentially)
when I use PorteuX Xfce 4.16
That's why I use 4.16

hi all, also the de language work on my porteus 5.1 so if you have the changes activated you can download the glibc-i18.n and add the four package on modules and change the en_US to de_DE into the two files:
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh
and reboot
/etc/profile.d/lang.sh
/etc/profile.d/lang.csh
and reboot
