Eaglemode: ZUI (Zoomable User Interface)

PorteuX - The Next Experience. It's inspired by Slax and Porteus but with heaps of improvements

Eaglemode: ZUI (Zoomable User Interface)

I searched but no results, so here I am.

Eaglemode is a zoomable file manager, launcher and more. It has been out for some time and I spent some time to make it usable for me. Very enjoyable and easy.

https://eaglemode.sourceforge.net/index.html

I made an XZM of my modifications if anyone is interested. No extra deps on my Porteux 1.0 system or on Puppy Linux Slacko 15.

Hi Vic,
Eaglemode requires perl,
perl is included in the devel module, but 05-devel is very large (135 MiB)

Hi Kulie,
I must have perl from another module. I do not use the 05-devel unless it is required, like Vbox. I only activate Vbox module when needed.
I will try to find which module has it.
Thanks for replying,
Vic

Welp, perl is in 001-core-current-20230221.xzm.
I grepped the /mnt/live/memory/images/001-core-current-20230221.xzm/ folder and there it was.
Maybe that is why the module is 136.9 MiB.
At least I did not add it.

The grep for perl was my first grep. The quantity of info was overwhelming.
Once I read each individual entry the references tp perl were more like parts of a bigger word or just comments about perl, but not the perl software itself.
So I started in Always Fresh and Eaglemode played fine, so maybe EM does not need perl anymore or has it built-in.
Anyway, cool and thanks for your input.

Please do share.

Not that I need it as such, in XFCE there is a zoom mode by default (I forgot if that's due to XFCE or due to my native NVidia driver) by using alt+mousewheel to zoom in and out (works for the whole screen, regardless of which program runs) and while I do not use that function every day, when I need it it is really awesome to be able to zoom into whatever I need to be zoomed in.
Cheers!

in XFCE there is a zoom mode by default
This is a characteristic of the DE, and has nothing to do with eaglemode.

Eaglemode is a program and file explorer similar to a terminal with graphical elements.
You zoom in and out with the mouse wheel, like in a fractal.
Point to the drive you want to take a closer look at - and then scroll in, down to the lowest level.
Some programs are also brought e.g. games, clock.
It's not nice to look at and also takes some getting used to in use - I prefer to stay with Midnightcommander.

I use mc as often as I use nemo (I prefer nemo over thunar since it uses less system resources), at times even more often than nemo.

Still, Eaglemode sounds intriguing, at last to test it out.

And its no big deal to

Code: Select all

txz2xzm eaglemode-0.96.1-x86_64-1.txz
after downloading it from https://sourceforge.net/projects/eaglem ... ror=master and Vic are you right, it is ugly. :D
One needs perl which is by default not part of Port. (so aside from eaglemode-0.96.1-x86_64-1.xzm a minimal perl module is needed since no one wants to have 05-devel activated all the time)

Added in 8 minutes 39 seconds:
And not only ugly, but for some of its elements unintuitive to use.

And I use this perl module - 16457728 bytes (15.70 MB) perl-5.34.0-x86_64-2_slack15.0.xzm

Added in 10 minutes 30 seconds:
How does one move the viewed area, e.g. I zoomed in and want to keep the zoom level but shift the whole focus more to the e.g. left?
Holding the mouse and moving the mouse does nothing. All I can think of that works is zooming out, moving the cursor more to the left and zoom in once more.

Added in 5 minutes 25 seconds:
Also, no sound when I click the Test Beep:

And it ha at least one more unresolved dependency that it not complained about when being started.

Ok, try this...

I was able to download from gdrive without signing in, so am not sure what happened.

Also try gdrive again. I redid the public share and signed out to check.

Now it works, but needs JS.

Is this md5sum correct?

Yes it is correct.

If I share anything else I will give the md5. Good habit, thank you.

You are welcome.

Do you have any tips how to solve these issues:
