PorteuX 0.2 has been released

Post#1 by porteux » 22 Mar 2023, 13:52

  • added GNOME 42.9
  • added MATE 1.27
  • fixed a bug where CPU governor were always set to powersave
  • fixed a bug where booting from a grub bootloader was not working
  • LC_COLLATE is not set to C anymore. This fixes sorting, now being case insensitive
  • improved how modules are being detached from union to be sure we're matching their exact names
  • fixed a bug where deleting in lxde and lxqt was not working properly
  • fixed a bug where browsing a folder in save session application was not showing the units properly
  • fixed a bug where some converter (e.g. rpm2xzm) were not showing any dialog
  • fixed rpm2xzm help text
  • fixed getpkg symlink
  • dropped arandr and wgetpaste
  • libcue and neon have been moved to xtra
  • changed file name convention to use 'stable' instead of '15.0' -- this might break some app store downloads if the user doesn't update to PorteuX 0.2
  • updated some applications in the stable release and many in current/unstable
  • devel module is not related to the desktop environment anymore
  • fixed a bug where cheatcodes in porteux/porteux.cfg were not working
  • fixed a bug where setting the keyboard layout via cheatcode was not working on super fast boots
  • many small tweaks in the defaults of the desktop environments

Is the PorteuX 0.1 009-porteus5-compatibily-current module compatible with porteux0.2? I don't see one in the PorteuX 0.2 link.

Can PorteusX use a older generic Porteus Kernel?

I have an nVidida Card that is a bit dated, and the newest kernel I was able to compile hat driver for is k5.4.30.
The NV Driver version is nvidia-340.108.

(The driver module I use is 010-nvidia-340.108-k.5.4.30-porteus-v5.0-x86_64_rava.xzm )
Cheers!

What version is the NVidida driver?

In my book, the driver should always have the driver version in its name, and also the kernel version for which it was compiled for.

reasons: older hardware will not work with a too new driver.

Only the correct kernel with enable the NV driver to work, all other kernels (incl. the very same gcc version that the kernel was compiled under) will fail. The system itself can have a newer gcc, it is about the gcc the kernel was compiled with, not the system gcc.

Also, is there a way to get the files area on github to show more of the file names? It is cropped so that I cannot se what names the xfce modules are, even when to the very right to all the filenames there is free unused space in the file browser thingy on that webpage.

Probably I cannot see the element that need to pull to make the width of the filenames columns larger because of my advanced night mode in Palemoon.

The link to 009-porteus5-compatibility-15.0.xzm gives a 404 not found.

The 009-porteus5-compatibility-current module can be downloaded.

Could it be that GitHub site is malfunctioning with a Palemoon browser?
when I go to the page where there should be the ISOs ( https://github.com/porteux/porteux/releases ) I can click on "show all 25 assets" all I want - all the other by default hidden assets stay hidden.
It sucks when a site like github changes its way of working so that the site breaks a recent browser …
Cheers!

So no, your tip is not working since I tried that the very first time I reached that page.

I even logged into silly GitHub to use the advanced search, but it seems the ISO file is not named porteusx-v0.2-xfce* because a search for

Code: Select all

fork:true filename:porteusx-v0.2-xfce
gives zero results.
Cheers!

But how do I guess the file name?

I cannot even download any of the single base modules either using palemoon. This sucks.

For now i upgrade my PM from palemoon-32.0.1.linux-x86_64-gtk3 to palemoon-32.1.0.linux-x86_64-gtk3 - not that I have my hopes up.
i read on the PM forum that there is a hack for the broken GitHUB but that this code is not yet included in 32.1.0 :(
Cheers!
